Some (oebese) people, just lay themselves on the back. In accidents some people float, and others sink. -Obviously one part of people, with proportionally less sceleton in them have a density lower than water; and they float, the other contrary, and they sink.

That must be the prerequisite for swimming... So the question is "Is it possible for everyone to swim? -What makes it possible -the air in the lungs and/or the movements in the water?

If you float; how, then, can you sink? -If you sink; how, then, can you raise in the water? -How can you bring loads up to the surface?

It is possible for anyone to swim, but your right that the body type definitely has something to do with it. It has alot to do with technique too. I am thin, so I sink very easily but I can float very easily also, it all has to do with your comfort level. If you panic and thrash about in the water you will sink very fast, but if your calm, keep your lungs full, and make fluid efficient movements you will float very easily.

So, to answer, I think its good technique, and breathing control that are the biggest factors. Hope this helps some.

Everyone can float - its the air in your lungs that keeps you afloat.

Sinking happens when people panic.
