Does it float? would an oil be considered an alkene or no? Im not sure if it floats, crystallizes, mixes or sinks...please help!

An alkene is just a hydrocarbon that has one or more double bonds between carbon atoms. A liquid alkene will float on water, because its density will be lower than that of water. It won't dissolve in or mix with the water because there are no strong forces of attraction between alkene molecules and water molecules.
