why do you bother with us then?
By the questions that get posted here on Womens Studies one can only assume that the male gender is full of hate towards females, and yet men are still sniffing around wanting a little somthing. Is that all there is to it? Should we just give up and go back to the one night stands of the '70's. Is that what would make you guys happy? It obviously isn't our scintillating conversation.

Ok...well I'm just curious because of the recent up swing in insulting derogatory posts by men. If I'm not going to get a serious answer then that's the way it is...

Too bad most of you men do not allow email because I would love to carry on this conversation...Phil, I denigrate those men who ask demeaning questions of women. Ask a serious noninsulting question, and you will get a thought provoking answer from me. That is why I posed this question. I'm sick of the questions you guys are asking.

Here, read this academic article on trolling in the feminist forum: http://rkcsi.indiana.edu/archive/CSI/WP/WP02-03B.html . It will make you feel much better and quite a lot more understanding of what goes on here. I've found this characterization of the trolling "game" (note that they think this is a *game*, much like the computer games that they spend three-quarters of their lives playing) especially helpful: "Donath characterizes trolling as 'a game about identity deception' (Donath, 1999, p. 45) in which all the participants are not cognizant of the nature of the game. The troller tries to write something deceptive, but not blatantly so, in order to attract the maximum number of responses (Andrew, 1996; Donath, 1999)." Oh, and read this, also: http://www.usemod.com/cgi-bin/mb.pl?WhatIsaTroll .
You are right that these guys want "something more" - to annoy the s.hit out of everybody else, and drag them through the mud because hatred amuses them. As you probably already noticed, they couldn't give a flying crap about constructive discussion.

When you asked this question, I straight away thought of the thread written by another poster here about how all men hate women, and when they are growing up, the young men look at their mothers with utter contempt(not to quote or anything, but that was how I interpreted the question).
If this is true, that all men hate women, then they must be very good for the most part at hiding it from us, because while I know a small number of men cannot stand women whatsoever, I have met alot of wonderful men that don't give off this impression of hatred at all, and I still believe that most men do not hate women, but quite a few do become frustrated because of the way society has become.
It's good to work towards women having better rights, but it seems there has been a price to pay in some instances, and I feel that in a few instances, it should've been better handled.
To fight for better rights shouldn't be at the expense of the opposite sex, and I have alot of faith in men, they just want to talk about it and hopefully get things sorted out to a positive outcome, where they will be seen as equal as women.
With alot of questions here in WS that are derrogatory towards women, they are mostly made by a select few male trolls(yes, there are female trolls here too that have nothing better to do than to disrupt) and they're not worth even a passing glance at their question. I don't really think all men would hold the same views as these male trolls, and I've seen that some of them will reply to a male trolls post and give them a sharp reply.

I see 4 thumbs down for smartalex. He describes why many men resent (and sometimes hate) women better than anything I've seen yet. If women minimized the amount that they participated in what he describes, and men cut bait earlier and more often when they saw these things more than a minimal extent,............

-Some men project their dismal personal experiences onto all women, just like some women do, and hate all women for the actions of a few.
-Some of the posters of ridiculous questions are very young, since you only have to be 13 to participate on Answers.
-But the majority of men and women who post nasty questions and answers like to post the most sexist, hateful gender stereotypes they can, so they can sit back and laugh at all the people who don't know their tricks and respond with outrage.
-If you're here regularly, it can be too easy to lose your temper, lash out, and they enjoy it even more
-I use to worry about young men and women who stumbled into their evil web, and got conned about the "evil" of all women (or men), but then I would have to actually read these troll's questions and answers regularly...Since the trolls are a depressing lot of losers, it's usually not worth my time to read their trash!
-A couple of the trolls are actually sadistic stalkers, so you do have to be careful, as well
-But then again, there are many thoughtful feminist men and women who have a lot to offer, when you can find them amidst the debris

I personally don't care what would make men happy, nor whether or not they hate me. I don't hate them, don't really have a reason to, but I don't really care much about what they think of me either.
I sometimes wonder if it isn't the cultures most of the men in question come from. Some promote the snide comments they make.

I think Allegra's answer is spot-on. For most of them, it's a game.
I also think that some of them need a place to vent, and their posts reflect personal experience, which they unfairly generalize and attempt to apply to all or most women.
And to be fair, the men are not the only ones guilty of generalization and projection. I am not schooled in psychology, but it seems to be human nature.

No Konnie, unfortunately you would get few serious answers, because some people that post here are full of hate and fighting their private demons.
I also think there is a lack of information about what feminism is about. It is not about hating men, it is a human rights movement (see my question somewhere here, where I hope to get serious answers too)
Best thing to do is to ignore and avoid reading posts like " Do women read with their breasts?" and such...

Most men don't hate women... we just don't like your behavior. The need to play mind games, tease, cause drama, be difficult and selfish. The tendency to talk out of both sides of your mouth, be hypocritical and overly defensive. Most of the questions posted are innocent attempts to understand women better and not insults to women. But instead of giving helpful answers, most women attack and insult the person who asked the question. Thus confirming the negative assumtions made towards women. If none of that applies to you, then I'm not talking about you.
