Those positions tend to require more school at our colleges. This gives those institutions more time to indoctrinate these folks into their liberal thinking. Also these people don't tend to join the real world until much later (if at all in the case of professors) thus not allowing them a true view of life in the USA.

I'd have to say that they are more educated. I hate that they jump on you but maybe that is just how you see it. However if you don't like liberals then find a place with conservatives. I think that they are not much different than us conservatives. It grieves when I see some of us who spew hateful utterance at or liberal brothers and sisters. The country is made up of a diverse people believing different things. In most countries this is not allowed. If Bush had his way America would be like that. He said things would be easier if he were a dictator. Maybe that accounts to his 23% approval rating. Personally I believe neither religion nor politics belong in the work place. Don't hate the liberals we are all Americans. And except for a few we work together.

Of course everyone announces their political affiliation when they go to work. Do you think we are stupid or something. No one knows or cares what another's political affiliation is in the work place unless they had out brochures and that is illegal in most companies for anyone and everyone.
If you are upset by people in a workplace than you have 3 options. Option one. Shut up and let things be as they are. Option two try to make things better using the system or changing your attitud to fit the norm in the company. Option three you could resign and move to greener pastures. It is your decision. Don't expect others to conform to you it is you who must conform in the work place to be happy there.

I'm not quite sure it's so much academic institutions as it is location. I am located in the deep south and have went to two Universities, both Conservative, so I'm not quite sure where in the south liberal institutions are here. I believe you would be better suited in a different location.

Once again this is a Lee Atwater result. Atwater convinced a certain segment of white American society that despite the fact that they themselves were poor the party of the rich the Republicans were their friends
At the same time with the aide of Regan, Atwater began a general anti-intellectualism amongst the minions of the party. They made fun of and dismissed any one with an education as an "East (or West) Coast Liberal.
The elite of the Republican party of course continued to embrace education, especially higher education, but for the rank and file the idea of having a higher education became a mark that they were going to become liberals
And so they are now by an large less educated then their Democratic brethren and so are much more susceptible to not only slogans but to voting based on "non-issues" like gay marriage and flag burning.
In the meanwhile Democrats and Liberals continued to get advanced degrees and continue to see education as the mark of something good, not as a badge of dishonor like their republican friends

For the amount of education required, academics make far less compared to those working in the private sector.
Also, as aforementioned, without Big Government, who would pay their salary?

"Liberalism" isn't about a political agenda. It's about having an open mind. And having a mind open to new ideas is a competitive advantage in science--or any other academic discipline.

Because liberals don't like to work for big corporate companies... they are anti-big business and see acedemia as a much more noble profession... in the corporate world it is almost the opposite of your current situation... most educated conservatives are in the corporate sector...

Liberals feel the need to donate money to universities, like there was one for a study on sheep in Montana, do we need that....no. Liberals give away more useless grants so universities can say they're doing something, even if it doesn't help anyone in America.
