You can save money by purchasing the upgrade version since you already own a legal copy of windows XP that you will be upgrading from.

I am using Vista Ultimate as i run servers etc... tho my advice is don't get it yet, all Vista does really is utilizes the new DX10 platforms. Unless you have a series 8 nvidia or equivalent graphics card there is really no point, wait until u need it and the prices have dropped, Most dx9 games wont work on Vista so you will be stuck with a bare machine.

if you are running xp pro you wont be able to upgrade to vista home or home premium (due to security features...long story, just trust me). BUT, what microcrap doesnt want you to know, if that you have the capability to run a FULL install with the UPGRADE software.
in previous versions of windows inorder to "unlock" the full version on upgrade software you had to enter a certain string during the install of the software (the upgrade is the full version with a different install package)
but with vista, its nice and easy, just throw the DVD in, it will tell you that you cannot upgrade from pro to hom, and offer to do a full install for you. so you just got the full version for the upgrade price
having said all that, i recommend ALWAYS doing a full install. upgrades are bad news, its build on a used foundation. install full, start from scratch, have less worries in the end.

If your XP is legit then the Upgrade will suffice. If you've got a bad copy of XP then you will need the Full version of Vista. Good Luck HTH.

I basically have Vista 'reason I have been given a clean laptop. i like Vista, even nevertheless that is extremely no longer properly actually worth the money. even nevertheless, finished is for desktops without working equipment. improve is for desktops that have been already working domicile windows. you like the improve. you will ought to purchase a "actual" replica of domicile windows. I certainly have a link for WalMart, in case you desire to purchase it online. If that is availible, it's going to be the comparable cost in-save. desire I helped!

You do not require the full package, just the upgrade, however i would not recomemd upgrading, as you will find your computer will not run as well as it should, its a bit like spring cleaning wipe your computer clean and do a clean install, which can be done from your upgrade dvd by the way!
