you can and we use a method of finding the parallax of a star. which finds the orbit and can tell if it is a star so that you don't count the same star twice.

Anyone with eyes can count the stars in the sky. Just not all of them.

We are counting as many stars as we can. We are even making catalogs of stars that tell how far away each star is, its speed and direction of motion, its brightness, color, temperatue, and lots more.

Some of these catalogs can be downloaded to your computer if you have a big enough hard drive to hold that much information.

We can only count the stars that we can see, and that is only a tiny fraction of all the stars in our own galaxy (MilkyWay). There are billions of galaxies out there, and we discover more of them all the time. Every time we make a bigger, better telescope, we see more stars and galaxies.

We have made catalogs of galaxies and we are in the middle of making a 3D map of over a billion galaxies.

No. Different people have eyes that are more or less sensitive than others, so someone with more sensitive eyes will see more stars. It also depends on how bright it is where you are, so you will get a different number whoever you ask.

Of course, in ideal conditions the number is too huge to count anyway.

No. the earth moves and stars don't. So it's impossible to count them.

Theoretically it's possible, but our eyes can't see every single star and there is to many to count..

You should try. =]
