Hi Carolyn,,

If you need a TEMPORARY fix to keep rain out,,,a/c In ,etc..

WalMart has some Clear ,Heavy Vinyl sheet in their Cloth & Sewing Department.

It's Real Cheap. I imagine $10 or less.

It's "crystal clear",,Very Strong,,,and it holds up very well.
And it's easy to work with.
Scissors are good to cut it with.

You can use Duct Tape to "install" it on your Explorer.
About $2 a Roll or less.
Just wipe off the area around Outside of window and tape the Vinyl directly to Body/Wndow Frame.

***Duct Tape makes a mess on the paintwork.
Charcoal Lighter Fluid,,or "Bug & Tar Remover" from Walmart or any Auto Parts store will remove the Duct Tape
easily ,,whenever you're ready to.
It's cheap stuff too,,and wont damage your paint.

*Cut it to shape
*Tape across Top First
*Pull snug at Bottom Center,,and tape with a 6~12" strip in middle to hold it tight.
*then pull all the slack out of the sides at Lower Corners,,,and tape the sides.

Not hard to do.

It lasts way Long and you can see Out of it very good,,almost as good as real glass.

The whole deal should be $10~15,,,you can do it yourself,,,all by yourself in just a few minutes.

Most Cloth/Sewing Stores have the Clear Vinyl,,,if there's not a Walmart near you

It's tacky I 'spose,,,
but it's a CHEAP,Easy,QUICK,Safe way out of a bind.
And it will last at least a couple months till You can get a Glass replaced.

You can even clean it if necessary,,,a little dishwash soap in some water,,,wipe it with a towel,,,and rinse with plain water.

Beats Garbage Bags and Cardboard as a TEMPORARY fix, anyway.

Good Luck,,,hope that helps

Txm42's answer is a good, cheap alternative to having the glass replaced if you can't afford it or don't have the insurance deductible. I've used that method many times for customer's cars when they could not get in the shop right away and had a broken door glass. The clear plastic sheeting I used came in a roll about 10 feet long by 30 inches wide and a local hardware store carried it....ran about 20.00 They sell it for making storm windows and such---it's much thicker than regular plastic sheeting, it's about like soda bottle thickness but very clear so it's much easier to see through than regular plastic sheeting. Check with insurance first to see if you're covered and what deductible you'll have to pay.

most auto insurance comes with glass replacement at no charge.
Otherwise, check a local junk yard

I would check local Junk Yards if you are able to do it yourself.
