I always thought you just needed just a phone cord to plug into a jack. Im at a hotel right now testing it out because i am going to be at my grandmas and needa make sure it works. i can just plug into a phonejack at her house and dial up the numbers right?

If you have a built in modem then the jack is all you need. At a hotel you may have to dial the outgoing line first (usually a 9). ~

PeoplePC is dial-up and DSL is broadband...there is a big difference. You do need a modem for both types, but the modems are very different (although both do plug into the phone jack). If you have dial-up, you can dial from any place...just make sure you dial a local number or the long distance bill will be high.
