You're right about Zambrano, Penny, and Marquis, of course, and you can add the Hernandez brothers to that list also. However, don't forget some of the past and present Brave pitchers. Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and John Smoltz are better than some position player hitters, and would have a pretty good average, I surmise, if they had more times at bat to get into a groove. Also, though his career is dangling by a thread, another Brave, Mike Hampton, might be the best of all of them.

As a matter of fact, these guys have been used as pinch hitters in the past.

the best I ever observed replaced into Don Robinson, who performed for the Pirates and Giants. He hit .242 with 13 homers, and from time to time the Giants could use him as a pinch-hitter. Dontrelle Willis is probable the best hitting pitcher as we communicate (.222, 6 homers inclusive of three final year). Wes Ferrell holds the best-ever pitcher checklist with 38 homers; he hit 9 in 1931, it somewhat is likewise a checklist for pitchers. Babe Ruth hit 14 domicile runs as a tumbler, in accordance to Wikipedia.

Zambrano - Just a beast
Mike Hampton - think he has the record of 9 hr's in a year
Dontrelle - They actually use him as a pinch hitter.

Those 3 come to mind 1st.

I'd go with Adam Wainwright. He looks very natural at the plate, and he's off to a good hitting start this season (7 for 20).

Of the veterans, I'd probably go with Livan Hernandez. He's got a .235 career BA, and has some occasional power.

Zambrano for sure...Sabathia isn't too bad either. I've gotta say that Randy Johnson looks the most ridiculous at the plate...

All the guys you listed are good hitting pitchers. Since they're all NL guys, I'll give you the best hitting AL pitcher - CC Sabathia. He only gets to hit during interleague, but has 11 interleague hits.

The Cards had Marquis pinch hit on more than one occasion, sadly his pitching was inconsistent.
