ok.. i am 16 and i have blonde hair and light colored skin. i have some hair on the corners and the upper part of my lip. No one has ever said anything to me about it..but i am VERY self conscious about it. what is the best way to get rid of it.. like i said it is blonde already so i dont want anything that will make it darker or thicker. when ever i am around people i smile because then it is less noticable. It seems like it is darker depending on what position my lips are in.. if that makes sense? i am also kind of embarrassed to ask my mom about it so.. i dont know. also would you recommend shaving your arms? thanks! :)

Re: upper lip hair The best way to remove it is by waxing or threading. Waxing is more widely available than threading. Since you are a novice, I don't recommend DIY because it takes practice and the upper lip area is delicate.

If it is really pale, then you probably notice it way more than other people do.

As for talking to your mom, remember she was 16 once too and cares about her appearance too.

Re: shaving your arms - don't. Stubble is worse than hair. This is an area you can use a depilatory or wax yourself. There are pre-waxed strips which are easy to use. (ex. Parissa) Just follow the directions on the insert.

Yes, most do have hair on their upper lip. Some wax it off. Others don't bother if it is not too noticeable. The hottest girl I ever dated had some hair above her lip. No big deal. Now, about the chin hair. I'm not too familiar with that. I know that slight facial hair in general is common for women, but personally I have never dated a girl who had chin hair. I don't think I would mind though. It's just hair. Big deal. Instead of trying to find out if she is a freak or not, how about some introspection? Why does hair gross you out? Don't use "because" as a response. If you say that she is masculine because of her facial hair, then men who have very little body and sparse facial hair must be feminine. If you would stop dating her or say something to hurt her feelings all because of facial hair, then you have a lot to learn about dating and being in relationships. Thoughts and ideas trump aesthetic qualities any day.

Lip situation-
I would just wax your upper lip, it is an easy way to get rid of it. Plus it would grow back blonde because that is your natural hair color. It also grows back thinner and thinner until some of it just does not grow back. It is an easy way to get rid of it and I have the same problem.

Arm Situation-
I would not shave your arms, because then the hair grows back thicker and darker than ever! It also leaves nasty little dots that are really noticable. I would just leave it natural. It works out better for you in the end.

Good luck with the Situation, I am sure you are beautiful no matter what you do.

Why I would not use....

Bleaching- It does not get rid of the hair it only covers it up, plus you have blonde hair so it would not make that much of a difference.

Hair removal creams- They normally don't work and sometimes can damage your skin. (One time I used it and it burned my lip. I also had yearbook pictures the next day and you could see it!)

Laser- Again, it only works with dark hair against light skin.

Shaving- It leaves your skin dry, leaves hair dots (hair under the skin that you can see), razor burn, cuts, and many other things. It is Just painful.

There are many options available for getting rid of unwanted hair. Some people bleach it so it is less noticeable but since you are already blond that will not work i suppose. Electrolysis is an option, but from what i understand very expensive and time consuming to get done professionally, and I personally tried one of the home electrolysis units a few years back and found it didn't work very well, actually not at all. There are many products available in the drug store...buffers to lightly buff the hair away (these do not work, atleast not for me..i found it irritated the skin), there are lotins for slowly thinning hair (which i also found inneffective), and then there is waxing. Waxing is problem the cheapest, easiest, and fastest route..even if a little uncomfortable. (It's like ripping a bandaid off. Recently, there have been advertisements for a new cream specifically for women who want to deal with facial hair, but i cannot recall the name of the product. Ask a pharmacist, they may know.

As for shaving your arm hair...ask yourself this..do you want to be stuck in the habit of having to deal with arm hair daily like you have to with your armpits and legs?

well the only way to get rid of the facial hair without making it darker is laser hair removal because anything else (tweezing, shaving, waxing) will make it grow back thicker and darker....and faster. And for the arms thing, no i would not reccomend it. You might see alot of girls that do, but its such a pain! You use up more shaving cream, you have to take more time in the shower shaving it...and you have to be careful and shave it almost every day because if you get pricklies on your arm, thats just weird..and gross!

Try a lip wax. I have the same coloring as you, and those bleaches or at home hair remover creams do not work.
The waxing lasts at least a few weeks and only hurts for a second. Most hairdressers offer waxing services for about $5-7.

There are many options. You can use a hair removal cream on your arms and legs and one made especially for facial hair. You can wax your facial hair (it hurts for a few seconds). You can have laser treatments (they're expensive!). Don't shave, you'll only get stubble and you'll have to do it every day.

Have you tried a bleaching kit? Sally Hanson, Nair, etc. There are also hair removers..but it may grow back thicker. Also, shaving your arms is not a good idea. I've seen people who do that and it looks stubbly and gross after a day..

I have used Nair. Nair makes a product that is specifically for your face. it works and it doesnt come back dark. or try waxing it.

DO NOT shave your arms..bad idea!
