In my experience being induced hurt more than the natural birth of my first son. Which was wierd because my first son was 9lbs 6ounces, but my second son at 6lbs 15ounces hurt so much more. It is because usually with the pitocin the labor comes on so much faster. I had my second son in all of 45 minutes! But keep in mind that I didnt use pain killers for either of my births! So if you have the option of getting an epidural and arent afraid of needles like me, then you could concider that.

It isnt going to matter either way though. After your baby is born and you see how gorgeous they are you wont care about the pain anymore!

I was induced with all three of my kids. The labor is more intense, but it gets things going. I found that after 40 weeks the baby get very big, so you do want to get things moving soon. The stress of having a 9lb baby is worse on the body than the inducing!!! Two of my kids were over 9 lbs so when I was having my third, my doc suggested doing inducement at 37 weeks...good thing baby was already up to 8 lbs! Good Luck.

No need to worry about it. Just be prepared to be at the hospital a while. I was induced and not dialated at all... I ended up being in labor for 22 hours. It wasn't as bad as it sounds. I didn't even start getting contractions that hurt for about 8 hrs. My advice is to bring magazines or anything that will take your mind off of the anticipation. We brought board games, too. Plus, I could have 3 visitors at a time. Just relax and everything will be just fine. Until then just continue your same routine... walk as much as you can and eat healthly. Who knows, maybe you won't even have to be induced... but don't try anything like castor oil and all that stuff ppl ask about on here. I tried it all and not a thing worked.

Pitocin was used in both of my children to speed up the birthing process. I have had positive experiences with both of my children. My labor with my daughter was 9 hours or so and with my son about three and a half once I started to turn as the doctors say. Which basically just mean you body is starting to take to the pitocin and contractions are becoming more effective. I did mine with no pain meds and it was painful but not too bad. Everyone has different pain thresholds. Go with what your body tells you to do! Just relax and everything will be fine. Good Luck!

I have three children and my last one was induced. My first two were long drawn out labors but my last one was only 6 hours! When they induce it goes much faster. If I were to do it again I would rather be induced. My first was born at 39 weeks my second at 38 weeks and my last at 39 weeks. Your baby is fully developed, he or she may just be too comfortable to come out on their own:) You could always try walking and sex but that never worked too well for me. Don't be scared because once it is over, you will see it was all worth it!

I was induced with both my kids, and while I was nervous with what to expect for my first one - I wouldn't have had it any other way. My first was 10 days overdue, and I begged to be induced when my second was 6 days overdue. Going in for the induction, I knew what was going to happen, which relaxed me. I was a nervous wreck before that worrying about when it would happen, where I would be, would I make it to the hospital in time, etc etc etc.

If you can tolerate it, walk around the block. Keeping active may encourage the baby to drop a little. Take someone with you on your walk, though.

Induction isn't horrible, but it's not much fun, either. Since you've already started dilating, chances are that you will go into labor on your own.

good luck!

I have been induced twice.
It was great. I was at the hospital when they broke my water, so I never felt "rushed" during the labor process.

I had pain killers to help with the initial process of the induction (so I slept through most of the beginning) and an epi to help with delivery.

I'd highly recommend it - if it's an option.

So, don't worry too much. :)

Go ahead and induce, the longer the baby is in you after 40 weeks, the baby starts pooping inside and will cause jaundice and he/she will start loosing weight. I had to be induced with my first because I was at 40 weeks, and she was absolutely beautiful. Good luck!

Look at it this way, unlike the rest of the women who have their water break, etc. and don't know which day they will be having their babies, you at least have a tentative idea. Just make sure your bag is packed, you have all your phone numbers in order to notify everyone once your little miracle has arrived, and other than that...it's a figure it out as you go type deal :)
