the red sox have tons of money. They can afford to compete with the Yankees.

Why does ANYONE want a salary cap? Other than the owners, who would soil their shorts over the guarantees of profitability.

Folks, "watered down" is not a synonym for "competitive". I much prefer great baseball teams to parity-pushing, mediocre ones.

Alas, expansion must have diluted the pool of smart general managers and competent scouting directors.

If I were the owner of the Red Sox, of course I would be in favour of a salary cap. It limits the cost of doing business. If you want to look at it only from a Yankee - Red Sox perspective, with a salary cap in place, there is no question that the Yankees would fall to the basement of the league for many seasons.

I had asked this question and absolutely 0 people could come up with an answer. If there was a cap of say, $75 mil, what would the higher spending teams look like?

Boston has been trying to get out of Ramirez's contract forever, but would the Yankees look like?
The fans have a real stiffy for Jeter, but if you had only $75 mil to spend, would you give $21 mil to Jeter, $25 Mil to ARod?
I know that some fans really think that to 'wear the pinstripes' these players would give a significant discount, I don't believe it's true.

Boston would have never gone after Dice-K, Anaheim would have forwarded on Gary Matthews prescriptions to another location and Scott Boras would be out of business.

I am a Red Sox fan and I am quite happy without a salary cap...so your question is generalizing so people can slander Red Sox fans...I am sure there are Red Sox fans, Yankees fans, and fans of every team that would like a salary cap. I am sure that there are also fans of all teams that are happy with the way it is now.

I think baseball should have a salary cap...look how effective it has been for the NFL...the competitive balance would do baseball some justice and you'd see more teams focusing on their farm system rather then players developing on the Marlins, Pirates, Royals and Nationals and then the Yankees reaping the benefits...the more and more the yankees and red sox spend, the higher the tickets become...it's becoming insane

Im a Red Sox fan and Ill tell you my reasoning
-Ya the Yankee issue...they just thorw money at players and when they see the money they follow it...right 2 the lip gloss and the pin-stripes
-Believe it or not me and a lot of people I kno...(red sox fans) would like to see other teams in contention...the teams that can't throw money at players
-It works for other sports...it makes the game less like a buisness and takes it back to being Baseball

cuz the yankees are always over 200 million, and are always winning, so the red sox fans want a cap so the yanks dont get all the top caliber players

&&

cuz the sox fans are whiners, and that wat they do best. (other than not win world series)

Red Sox fans just like to whine. That's what they do best

They want to prevent Yankees from buying pennants. With George Steinbrenner money is not a problem.
