I am 12 weeks pregnant and I am worried b/c yesterday my doctor called and said that I had a bladder infection. She prescribed me some medication, and I have been drinking cranberry juice. However, I seem to be so scared that something is going to happen to my baby. I haven't had any previous miscarriages. I saw the baby on the ultrasound last week and the baby had a hearbeat of179 bpm, and we saw the baby moving around. But for some reason I am still scared. I don't feel like I am showing, I noticed I have gained weight my regular pants don't fit me anymore, but should I be showing, should my abdomen seem tight, cause it seems soft to me. This is my first pregnany. Would I know if something happended to my baby. I am just nervous and I can't seem to calm down. Help please!

Right now your baby is only about 2 1/2 inches long. You won't be showing a lot, especially if it's your first. There are plenty of baby safe antibiotics that your doctor can give you for a bladder infection. You will be fine. Try to calm down and stress less. The second trimester is almost here and your risks of miscarriage go WAY WAY down then.

Don't worry! Bladder infections are very common during pregnancy. If it doesn't go away, they'll do a culture and make sure your on the right antibiotic. Make sure your drinking the actual cranberry juice and not cranberry cocktail...it has a lot of sugar in it. It's hard for the bacteria to live acidic urine. They can drag you down and make you tired....I know I've suffered with them before I got pregnant and I've had two since being pregnant. Your baby is so small right now that you don't have to be showing at all!! My friend is 27 weeks and didn't show until her 5th or 6th month. lol. Your a week away from your 2nd trimester and your risk of a miscarriage goes down dramatically. I know it's scary, I'm scared to death of labor right now since I'm in my third trimester. Take a deep breath and get some rest if you can. Good luck!!

Once you hit 12 weeks, your chance of miscarriage drops drastically. Having a bladder infection in no way affects your baby and would not cause you to miscarry. And no, it isn't "normal" to show at 12 weeks...most first-time moms start to show between 16-24 weeks. The uterus has just moved above your pubic bone and your baby is about 2 1/2 inches long...you should not be much bigger or have a firm stomach just yet. You are fine and normal. Don't worry. Good luck with your baby!

you're fine..I didnt really show until 15-20 weeks. A lot of women don't even gain weight in the first trimester. Regarding your worries about meds..my cousin had UTI's and yeast infections throughout her whole pregnancy and had to take meds for both and her baby is completely healthy. I know its nervewracking with it being your first pregnancy. I was and am still nervous through every stage that something will happen to my baby..once you start feeling its movements though you will kinda be able to check up on it without waiting to see the dr. good luck and congrats!

It's common to be scare this early, especially in a 1st pregnancy. You wouldn't necessarily be showing this early..I did with my son but that was my 3rd pregnancy. WIth my daughter and the twins I didn't show until well later then that. Bladder infections are rather common I wouldn't stress over that. Be reassured you're on yoru way into the 2nd trimester. You've seen the baby with a very healthy heartbeat so try and take it easy..enjoy these months, they'll be over before you know it!

Its very normal to be scared! Being worried is part of being a mom, its just the beginning! My little girl (who also was my first) was born in January. I was terrified all through out my pregnancy as well. And just so you know I had reocurring bladder infections and spent most of my pregnancy taking antibiotics. I was scared about taking all the medications, but you can't leave a bladder infection untreated during pregnancy. Anyway, my little girl turned out beautiful & healthy! It is normal to be nervous especially during your 1st pregnancy. Just try and relax. Just make sure you're getting good prenatal care, taking your vitamins, eating well & taking good care of yourself! 6 months from now you'll be so overjoyed with your little one and all these pregnancy nerves will be a thing of the past. All the best hun!

Well, I have never been in your situation exactly, with a baldder infection and all...however, I have been in your situation being scared for the baby and such. It took my husband and I over 2 1/2 years to get pregnant (through medical procedures even), and the doctors told us we had a slim to none chance of ever gettign pregnant naturally. So when I got a positive pregnancy test from a medical procedure, I was THRILLED to say the least. EVERYTHIGN that happened to me, I was afraid of...afraid the baby woudl be hurt, etc. I knwo this was an extreme case of worryign now that I have given birth and look back, but hindsight is always 20/20 you know. Just know that it si COMPLETELY normal to worry abotu things hurting the baby, as you are doing. Even without a 'special' situation liek mine was, it is hormonal changes, and the fact that you are sustaining another life that makes you more worried.
As far as showing goes...usually wiht your first, you show later than if you have had one or more babies before. Beign thin/skinny also makes you show later (contrary to popular belief) due to the stomach muscles (abs) bing toned more on thinner people. Heavier people show sooner, but are commonly mistaken for just having 'extra weight aroudn teh middle' or something. I am average size to thin, and I had a pretty well toned tummy when I got pregnant. I didnt start showing until I was 15 weeks, and even then, only my husband and I coudl notice it...even my family and close friends coudlnt tell a difference. So if you are not showing at 12 weeks, do not worry. I totally understand hwo bad you probably want a baby bump...but trust me...when it is there and continuously getting bigger and you think you cant possible get a bigger stomach than you already have, and then you end up growing outward another 4 inches...you will be looking back saying the same thing I am abotu to say....be glad you are not showing so early!!! Even though ILOVED beign pregnant and LOVED my baby bump, there were times that I was fed up with a huge tummy (like when I coudlnt put on my own shoes anymore, or see my legs to shave them myself. haha
The doctors woudl not prescribe you a medication that was unsafe for the baby or that woudl jepordize your pregnancy. The meds you are on for a baldder infection are safe and wil not harm your baby.
You have seen the baby on ultrasound and seen it moving around and heard its heartbeat, so trust in your body to take care of this baby for hte best right now. Nothign you mentioned will hurt your baby, so if anythign happens to the baby it will not be because of the current medication you are on or because of a bladder infection or anythign liek that. So right now, you are in the clear, and as long as your baby is alive and moving, it should stay that way. ;)
As far as your abdomen being tight...it will eventually get hard, however, right now the baby is too small to really even notice. The baby growing and your uterus growing is what makes your belly firm. Since you baby is so small, it is too little to make your belly hard, and it is till too small to make your uterus grow enough to make your belly hard yet as well. It will get firm eventually though. Again, be glad you are where you are right now....later you will wish for that softer belly again. :)

As for knwing whether or not somethign has happened to your baby...it can go either way. Not to scare you more (Im just tryign to give you honest answers here), it is possible that you may not know if osmethign happens to your baby. It does happen that a misscarriage occurs and the mother does nto kno about it...and there is no bleeding or anything. However, wit regular prenatal care, you will know...at a doc appt, you will hear the heartbeat each tiem and everything.

Honestly, if you can not calm down about whether or not your baby is okay, you may want to ask your doc for an extra heartbeat check or possibly even an extar ultrasound. (some hospitals do it, others dont...not sure abotu insurace covering it though).
Also, keep in mind that stressing isnt good for your baby either. Again, not tryign to freak you out, but just being truthful. Just try to relax, and knwo that everythign is alright...and that it is okay to worry like you are, it is totally normal to be thinking these things. The stress you are putting on your baby right now by being so nervous and worrying abotu things, isnt good for him/her (however it will not HARM him/her ro anything like that), and you want to do evertign possible to keep your baby happy in your tummy (by happy I mean healthy).

just keep your chin up and rest assured that you are doing everytign right, and not doing anythgin to hurt your baby (from what you have listed in this question anyways). So althogh I, nor anyone, can garuntee you will not have anythign wroong with your pregnancy or baby, based on this 'question' you asked...nothing is there to worry about regarding this stuff.

Seems typical, normal, and expected (especially form a first time mom...I was there abotu this time last year...lol).

Good luck and congrats! hope this 'answer' helped a bit.

Hi! Well first off congrats to you and the pregnancy. You will not be showing for a while. I know with my first pregnancy I did not show till I was almost 6 months along. Your baby is fine and it is the size of a Walnut :) But your baby will be fine with the medicine and your doctor would have not given it to you if he or she thought it would harm you or your baby. You know what when I was pregnant with my first one everything made me nervous because it is normal to feel that way because it is your first pregnancy. It is your motherly instincts kicking in. You will be fine and if you have any concerns please talk to your doctor or find a group to join for first time mothers :). good luck and you will be a great mom!

Its normal to be scared. Im also pregnant with my first so I am pretty scared about things to. A lot of pregnant women get a bladder infection when they are pregnant so dont worry youll be fine. It toke me till 14 weeks to start showing and look "bloated" so dont worry you will start to show soon, everyone is diff. Congrats on your preg and just try and relax, take a nice warm bath or read but try not to worry so much youll be fine.
