Self interest is anything that is in your best interest. These are good things. Self-interest is not a zero-sum game. If they are in your best interest, they are in others' best interest, too.

Selfish interest means something that will help you if you deprive others of it. Definitely a zero-sum game. Definitely NOT in others' interest.

Vested interest is something you've worked on or invested in or helped others develop or is something you are just plain interested in. Not a zero-sum game. This can help others. It definitely will not hurt them.

Think of Tocqueville's assessment of Americans' ability to distinguish between these and home in on what he called "Self interest properly understood." He defined this almost identically with my definition above of "self interest." He thought this was one of America's greatest endearing qualities. He admired this practical side of Americans very much.

SELFISH Interest,

The self-centered consciousness of the unenlightened soul is internal and it has its end.The depth within is limited because our light is meant to shine from outside ourselves, our light belongs to the world where we can combine love, peace and energy with others in the light of goodness.Seeking only self fulfillment leads to an isolation from other spirits thus sentencing your life to internal disharmony, depression and despair.

SELF-INTEREST

Self Interest is looking only within into your own flame which has a burn out point without combining with Gods light which shines on the universe. The soul is meant to have interests other then self for the good of the world.Society that is based on self cannot thrive,it will be deprived of oxygen just as a candle snuffed out by the shallow winds of time.

VESTED Interest
The outcome depends whether it is vested for self or vested for the good of the universe. Those interested vested with a loving spirit of giving, compassion and love will be like a savings deposit in heaven where thieves cannot rob or corrupt it.a act of good deed vested for the good of all mankind for the future has many spiritual rewards. However vested interest in a wicked means with wicked and self-absorbed intent will be like a tree planted on mineral less soil.the roots will not reach goodness and it will not stand in the eyes of goodness or spiritual reward ~The adviser

Self means exactly as it is. Self. Everyone is selfish to a certain degree. When people are praised for their generosity, they must remember they can be selfish too. Dislike is a form of selfishness. Like I can give you my money. But you cannot touch my stuff in my bedroom. Love can be selfish. I love you too much to let you go. Say you want to achieve something and everybody else is laughing at your attempts. But you could not be bothered with what they say. You do what you think you have to do. Win or lose, you still want to do it. It is selfishness. Selfishness starts a war. Peace comes when you die to your self. No, not die as in physical death. But die to your desires of winning the war. You stop fighting and peace comes in. Yes, it seems like you are the loser. But many people benefit from peace. You die to your self so that you and others will live.

These are nuances that are wasted on me. They are one and the same. These are merely semantics to allow people to feel better about their own interests in a society that generally frowns upon selfishness.

Selfishness keeps me alive. It does the same for you.
