My beloved's cousin and my cousin met at our wedding, and are now having a wedding of their own next week.

Well, you'd think that was the strangest thing, from what our friends are saying! But I've seen it happen before--I used to live in small towns, after all. Besides, don't most people meet their partners through people they know?

How about you? Do you see your sister or cousin at your in-laws' family reunion?

Yes, it not that weird, but is unusual.

In my family, one of my mother's cousin is married to one of my father's cousin. The funny thing is that at my parents' wedding, both cousins where carrying the flowers. Its real funny to see the pictures, and notice that the now married couple, at 5 years old, walking hand by hand carrying a basket of flowers.

I think it is a very romantic way to meet. A lot of people go to weddings looking for people of the opposite sex. Your friends need something more to do with their time. What your cousin and hubby's cousin do is no ones business but their own. I don't see anyone on my husband's side at my family reunions, but I wouldn't be surprised if I did.

Actually, I think it's kind of sweet. After all, they're not blood related, they could have met on the street or in a bar or a library or concert. The only weird part I can think of is trying to explain it to people who don't understand that there's no common bloodlines between them. Hard to explain to people who want to jump to INCEST OMG immediately.

And a family reunion will really be a family reunion for everyone! Just say "My cousin married HIS cousin, they're not related through the family tree at all!"

Of course most people meet their partners through people they know. My cousin met my brother in law one night at a BBQ at my place. They didn't hit it off right away, but they ended up seeing each other for a while a year or so later. It would have been a little strange to see my brother in law at my family functions, but it would have been ok with me. I love my family and if my cousin and my brother in law happen to love each other (even though they don't love each other) than more power to them. It wouldn't bother me to see them together at family reunions or whatever. I would be happy for them, very happy for them. Even though my family joked with my hubby that his family was trying to take over! LOL But no one would have minded if they were together! I hope that this has helped. Good luck to you and Good luck to the cousins!!!

I have friends that did the same.. but it was with brother and sister.... she married the brother, he married the sister... They met before either were getting married, but both weddings came soon after. Now they both have had children. I don't think its weird, but your right, it is a little different that what most people have.

I do geneology as a hobby - and it is not historically uncommon - but it makes it difficult to trace stuff sometimes that's for sure.

Stranger than seeing your cousin or sister at a family re-union is having a past high school friend be "in" your family. It's wierd to know so much about someone prior to your brother (or cousin for that matter) marrying them.

No, I don't see my cousins at my in-laws family reunions but I think it is nice that they hooked up and that you shouldn't let people's comments get to you. Things like this do happen.

None in my family but I have seen programs like 20/20, Date Line and Prime Time about this and although they walk around in public thinking others think they need to be ashamed of themselves showed me that it's just about two people falling in love. And not just in love but deeply in love. I personally don't have a problem with it. It's just so sad how others are so judgmental about it. The couple I babysit for have a similar situation.

The groom's sister and bride's brother met and started dating and eventually got married and had a kid. So I don't think your two's cousins dating is anything out of the ordinary.

It isn't weird at all, Green Eyed Lilo, in fact it used to be quite common. It is only in the contemporary and hugely populated world that the practice has become less prevalent, and that is only because there is greater mobility and more choices these days. Weird? How can love ever be weird?
