Someone is giving me a water bed. It's king size and waveless. Will I need to by special sheets? I don't have much money and was hoping to be able to purchase standard king size sheets. The other question is will the bed be cold because of all the water?

It depends on if it is a foam and waterbed or not. IMost waterbeds require special sheets. See if the person who is giving you the bed has any to spare. Also, most waterbeds come with a heater that lies against the bladder (water holder) to heat it up. I'm pretty sure you can find sheets at Walmart. You will also need a kit to fill up the water bed with a water hose. It attaches to the hose and is inserted into the opening of the bladder. Good luck!

My waterbed sheets have straps on the corners rather than the material stretching over the corners like regular fitted sheets. The mattress is heavy so lifting the corners is not easy. You will need a fill-kit and a bottle of conditioner for the water to keep it from growing bacteria. Buy the best heater you can get. Cheaper ones will fail more rapidly. I learned real quick to install two heaters. One is a back-up in case the other fails. Do not try filling the bed with hot water. You will stretch and possibly ruin the mattress.

You should get a set of waterbed sheets. They are made different from regular sheets. You can try the regular ones until you can buy a set. The bed will be cold for the first couple of days. Turn the heater all the way up until it warms up. After that adjust it to where it feels comfortable to you. I keep mine between 75 and 80 but different heaters are different so you might have to adjust it a few nights until you get it where you want it. Whenever my bed is cold, once from the heater not working and once from replacing the mattress, I spread a sleeping bag on top of the waterbed and slept on it. It helped it not feel as cold. Once the water heats up you won't need to do that but you might want a mattress pad. It makes a big difference.
