sounds like you are looking at a Dawoo/Chevrolet Matiz! Hope you do not have any large hills around your way as the .8ltr engine really struggles up them!
Some one already gave the exact how and why on engines but basically it is the referred engine size, the bigger the cc the more power it usually puts out.
Hope this helps J.

It is the size of the engine. The smaller the cc he smaller the engine and the more economical on petrol, but less power also. For a small car and a woman driver, 796cc is OK. Enjoy!

It is a small engined car. Benefits are cheap road tax, insurance. The downfalls are that it will be underpowered, not much more than a shopping/city car. No good on motorways or for carrying friends on long journeys.

Displacement is how they measure just how much air is moved through your motor in a full cycle. It is calculated by multiplying the stroke(distance the piston moves) by the bore(area of the piston). example: 1cm strokeX1sq.cm bore=1cc displacement per cylinder. multipy that times number of cylinders, and presto, engine size. Classic American cars are usually measured in cubic inches, European cars in Litres, and motorcycles and lawn mowers in cubic centimeters.
(P.S. I have a 2075cc '63 Volkswagen, thats 78mm stroke with 92mm Cylinders.)

That could be referred to as 0.8L
1000cc in one litre.
it is a measure of the volume of the engines cylinders.
