When my water broke I wasn't sure either. But it was the real thing. I was 37 weeks and didn't have contractions for hours after my water broke, but I went to the hospital right away. The other thing I experienced was pressure down there, it didn't hurt but really felt like she was RIGHT THERE! My water just kept coming, a little at a time. I would go to the hospital. If it's just pee coming out a little at a time, which is sooooo normal when you have a little person laying on your bladder, then at least you'll know. DO NOT be embarressed if this isn't the real thing. Believe me, better safe than sorry. Good Luck Mom!

well ill tell you what happened to me on friday. So i had the same thing happen. Just a tiny bit of fluid came out, then stopped then a little more. Nothing constant at all nothing as far as contractions, but i knew it wasnt pee. So i went in and got checked. My water had a tear on the top of the sac causing the leaking here and there and causing it to stop and start. I had my son at 6:17am. I went to the labor and delivery to get it checked out at 12pm and wasnt having contractions. I for sure thought i would be going home. Now we have a 5 day old :)

Go to the hospital.
When my water broke, I felt a tiny pop (like the baby kicking or something) and then it kinda just dripped out for hours. It doesnt have to gush. And I didnt start getting contractions untill an hour later.
You wont look like a fool. Better safe than sorry.

I will assume since this is two hours ago posted, that you have already hit the hospital. With my number 1, they had to pop my water sac, so it was major gush. With the second, I kept getting woke up from about midnight because I would have a little gush and feel like I wet myself and each time it wasn't. After a fashion of about 2 hours, I told the hubby I was concerned. We too, had a tear in the sac and that was causing the leakage, I had her at 1704 that evening.

With my first it was a gush, and with my 2nd it was a trickle as you have described. If you're not sure, there is a type of litmus paper that your nurse, midwife or labor & delivery dept can use to determine if it is aminiotic fluid. Don't worry about looking like a fool! If it's not amnio, they'll just send you home. If it is, you're in for an exciting day. They'll probably finish rupturing the membrane, and then labor will start. Congratulation!

I understand that when it breaks fully, you feel like you just wet yourself with a full bladder.
With me - I had a slow leak. Every time I got up from the couch, or sneezed, etc. I would get a "gush" sort of like when you have a heavy period (tmi- like after you have been sitting for a long while, then standing up) I wore pads until I went to the hospital in labor that night.
You can go to L&D and they do this paper test. They wipe your vag with it and it changes color if you are leaking amniotic fluid.
Good Luck!!

It could be your water breaking, it could also be you leaking urine due to the stress on your bladder (this happens in pregancy and is normal). Go to the hospital and tell them you think your water has broke, they can test the water leakage to see if it is in fact the baby water or urine. Don't worry about looking silly, nurses get this all of the time. They would rather have you go to the hospital just in case, than not go and have a rapid labor at home, unattended. Its safer for the baby to just go get checked out.

don't worry about looking like a fool. if you think your water broke, go get it checked out. usually it is more of a gush, but it is possible for the baby's head to stop it from gushing out. my water broke late in labor with all of mine so i can't say from experience but i have heard that the amniotic fluid smells kind of sweet so you could just take a sniff. of course it could be that you are leaking urine since late in pregnancy, we have to go often and the bladder doesn't always get emptied sufficiently. if you do go to the hospital (or doc's office), they can do a swabbing to find out if it was urine or amniotic fluid. Good Luck and let us know what happens.

That's EXACTLY how I went into labor with #1!! I wasn't dilated or effaced at all. I was getting into the shower at 39 weeks and I felt a trickle. I called my OB and went to the hospital. Since I wasn't dilating at all, I did have to get some pitocin but I had baby girl #1 that night.
Good luck!!
Call your OB.

I woke up and felt that I was wet as was the bed. It was almost like I had wet the bed. When I stood up a little more continued to trickle out. I then cleaned up and went to the hospital. Your water has defintely broken..go to the hospital. My contractions didn't start until after my water had broken.
