Salman Rushdie wrote a book called the ''Satanic Versuses" which many Muslims feel, portrays Islam in a negative light. Recently, Rushdie was knighted by the queen, this has really pissed off Islamic follwers, they are protesting and have again put called for his death and bounty has been placed on Rushdie's head.

Why do the alleged follwers of peace want to kill anybody with a different opinion?

because to them, it is justifiable in the eyes of their god. when rushdie's novel first came out, he also had a fatwa issued on him, and he had to go into hiding.
the sad thing is, i bet most of the protesters haven't even READ the book...they are blindly just following orders from a leader who proclaims that this book is "anti-islam".

The question arises only when you willingly try to ignore the fact.
1. Satanic verses is nothing sort of a scholarly contribution that should earn knighthood.
2. Freedom of expression does not allow you to abuse others, does it? If yes, will you digest if some one abuses you without provocation and said 'son of a *****'? I think you should not digest it. Salman Rushdie did the same.
3. When 1.5 bill Muslim of the world are saying he was and is wrong then why the so-called peace loving, democratic West is after one person. Do they value one above 1.5 billion people?
4. Muslims are against because this award is clearly not for his scholarly works rather it is a price the West is giving to Salman for his being anty Islamic.
5. There are thousands of Muslim in the world who have positively contributed in making peace without attacking any religion or culture. Why the nighthood not offered to them?
6. To protest against some one is a democratic right, and you say so, then why are you so upset if people protest against Salman?

Nacho, the damnation of Rushdie by the extreme Khomeini is no longer standing. Iran at that moment came out of a very long time of western dominance and temporarily had a swing to the other extreme.

However, that of all people Rushdie now is chosen for knighthood is felt as a deliberate insult towards muslims.

There is no such thing as an official calling for Rushdie's death any longer, but it is really a matter of where angels fear to thread...

I would hesitate a long time before I would give a reward to someone that would upset many christians too.

islam is a religion of peace, but radical islamists interpret their religion as a call to arms to defend islam against infidels. every religion seeks peace, it's just that certain people who interpret their relgious texts feel the need to defend it due to many insecurities. just remember that it's always humans who screw things up and will continue in doing so. your question is like saying "i have a black friend, but why isn't he rapping, playing basketball, or gangbanging?"

Radical Islam is not a religion of peace it is a religion of vengeance & obeance. Do as it says or die. It is still stuck in the dark ages, because the men in control want to keep it that way.
Not all muslims follow that hate filled doctrin.

"DITTO" ... I must admit that it made me feel so proud to be British for the first time in a while, I was overjoyed when I heard the news, and I think that it is a very important statement from the royal family and the Queen in particular, it is right that they are standing proud and I am with them all the way on this one, man I am bursting with pride.

"GOD BLESS THE QUEEN"

If Christianity is a religion of peace, why do Christians call for the death of Muslims ("just nuke them!" - thank you Scooter L for proving my point)

Because they don't follow the religion as it is taught, but follow fanatics who masquarade as religious leaders.

I believe they come from a culture that cohabitates with--but is distinct from--Islam. That culture is highly intolerant of dissent. In the West, we often argue and fight, but there's an unspoken understanding that reasonable people can disagree sometimes and that violence isn't the best way to resolve an issue.
