Try making yourself TO DO lists and checking items off as you do them, also, try to keep a worry list. When you worry about something, write it down so you wont forget, then set an hour a day aside and worry about it all you want. After that, go down the list and see which of the worries you can do something about and put it on the to do list. Those worries you cant do anything about, you have the choice to keep on the list or let go. If that doesnt help, see if you can get some counseling. Good Luck.

I have always thought about a lot of stuff all the time. My mind is always racing with something. The only time I get a moments rest from that is when I am sleeping. Well unless I dream anyway. Don't really know if that is normal for females or if it's just me, or cause I could be A.D.D. How 'bout a mixture of the three. LOL

Yes this "condition" is a combination of intelligence and being too hard on yourself. I use to do this constantly, it drove me nuts, I didn't think it was even able to be changed. It can be solved if you learn how to forgive and accept yourself. Realizing you are human and everyone makes stupid mistakes all the time and relaxing because you have very high expectations of yourself, in fact they are so high they are impossible. I was always too hard on myself with ridiculous expectations too, but that was getting myself into too much trouble. I would and still do try so hard I mess everything up my worst one is stressing so much about waking up on time for work that I have trouble falling asleep which of course makes me too tired to wake up, sleep through the alarm and has gotten me fired from several jobs. Everything you do you have to believe in yourself and feel you can do whatever you want. It is very common for a smart person to be a complete failure, because they are a victum of their own self judgment and are tring too hard.
Forgive yourself for everything you do, mistakes are the biggest teachers in life try to learn and even enjoy your mistakes, now you have the knowlege and have grown as a person. This will also empower you and help you later, now go fall on your face, what did you learn? I bet you wont do that again. Everyone falls especially at first, in fact you have to fall inorder to grow to the next stage of your life. Not falling keeps you in the same spot and you wont be able to enjoy the benefits of these lessons.

Recently i got seen a best example of this issue.
After exam my friend tell me that he couldn`t write to one subject.
I ask him;on which one?.He say on subject number two (2)
That was the good subject for the theacher to find out our knowlege and our expresivity.
I brought up in the conversation a case I know and there it was the key to the "racing thoughts" known by me as a "flux of thoughts" .
What I remarked in this situation it was that my friend was not ready for this subject and he never imagine that it will be put in this way.
The subject was kind of "Give example of a case in wich a jurnalist from our country broke the deontologic code (etic code) and explainit"
I told him be ready next time for all of which you are not ready.
Ask your self if you belive you ready and pray for wisdom.
The key it is in your actions everyday.
A picture,a line whit your pencile on the paper,a throw whit your look to the other side of the room it may open the closed gate to the "flux of thoughts".
Good luck and write to me,if you like to write, about any subject.

I have racing thoughts all of the time. With me it's caused by anxiety and depression. I have insomnia because of it. My mind races and I can't sleep. Often I can't remember things that happened just a short time before, and I've developed obsessive compulsive behavior too. My psychiatrist proscribes anti-depressants, and non habit forming sleeping pills, but there are still days when I can't sleep, and my behavior becomes erratic.

oh my god...this sounds like me, i didn't realize there was actually a name for it! i bought the best little book for myself in the office supply aisle at wal-mart...it has 5 separate note pads...2 of them are small post-it pads, one is a "to do" pad, one is a "shopping list" pad, and the final one is just labeled "notes"...i call it my "note to self" book...i carry it with me ALL the time, and write my "notes to self" on the appropriate pad and cross them off as i no longer need them...not really a medical answer to your question, but i've found it helps me feel a little less overwhelmed all the time!

...sounds like you have some major league "anxiety and depression" issues possibly. Only a certified licensed therapist should diagnose your real difficulties here though honestly. We're just simply arm chair quarterbacks here otherwise! Check into a local therapist's office in your neighborhood ASAP. Your stuff can be managed properly and satisfyingly...if only you'd get up and go get some assistance!..........are we cool dude or what?

i have racing thoughts because of having Bipolar Disorder. it manifests itself as inability to concentrate and to focus because there is no control over them and causes anxiety and stress. also causes insomnia because the mind won't shut off. also there are "flight of ideas" where there's a constant deluge of thoughts that come and go very quickly and for me and many others it has to be controlled by medication just to be able to function on a normal level. don't settle with living with these problems, consult a Psychiatrist as they are the most familiar with these problems and can give you what you need to be able to get a grip on your thoughts and ability to cope with them. it could very well be a disorder that can be quite easily and successfully treated with meds and therapy. don't make yourself crazy over it--ask for professional help--there is no shame in it, many of us have done the same and are better for it. take care of yourself before things get to confusing..good luck to you, i survive through it with good medical care and therapy and so have many others. most of all don't let your pride keep you from getting help. we all need it from time to time, we are none of us perfect. hang in and hang on..!
