You cannot gamble anywhere in the state of Nevada at the age of 18. Any underage people caught gambling will get escorted out of the casino. And if you win a big Jackpot you need to verify your age and identity. And when they find out when your underage the jackpot just goes back into the casino. And your picture gets taken for future reference.
Who ever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. I've lived in Las Vegas for over 10 year and there is no underage gaming area since I've been here.

When I was 20 yrs old I was in Las Vegas for my step sisters wedding several years ago and I couldn't gamble. I had to stay behind the velvet rope. I could walk through a casino but I could not touch a slot machine or any card tables without being asked for my I.D. and then asked to step away.
I was out there two years ago and I was 30 and I still was getting carded. They are pretty strict out there. I would suggest not going to Las Vegas.

It is a myth. If security does not stop you, you can gamble, just pray you don't win anything that requires a hand pay, because they ask for ID and if you are under 21, they can refuse to pay you...then kick you out of the casino.

It is a myth for Vegas. And I believe for most if not all other American venues, including sovereign Indian nations.
But not for the casinos in Québec (located in Montréal and near to Ottawa and to Quebec City). 18 there, drinking age also.

It is also likely that you will get caught if you try.
If you're under 18 and asked for ID, say something like I forgot to bring it. This way, you probably won't get kicked out permanently.
Every gambling outlet in Nevada is very careful and will usually card anyone who looks under the age of 30. They have reason to, because if they are caught with underage gamblers, they can lose their gaming license. The gaming license is far too important for a casino to lose, and they would rather be strict and lose a few patrons than to lose this all important license.

21 to drink and gamble in all 50 USA states. 18 is a legal adult, but one can't drink or gamble (legally).
