Serious rains last night. Now water below the floor vents and we can't run the AC without hearing it? Help?!

I am assuming you have a concrete slab as a foundation? If so that is a real problem. If the water table came up so high that the duct work is flooded you have serious problems.

Best thing to do is call your insurance company.

You probably need a drainage system installed around the perimeter of your house. If you are on flat land you will need a sump pump to remove the excess water.

After the water is out of the ducts you will want to get them cleaned before mold starts growing. I would not even try to use the A/C until this is remedied.

You don't say what kind of house you live in; if it is a trailer or a house on cement blocks or something like that where the ducts were near the ground and filled up with water during the high water. If the water has receded and you can manage to climb under there, locate the lowest spots in the duct work and drill some holes to let it drain out. (Use a battery or hand operated drill, because when the drill goes through duct, the water will start comming out immediately and could cause a shock with an electric drill! (If the water draining out is really muddy, you may have to have someone come and clean out the ductwork). Once the bulk of the water is drained cover any holes with duct tape. There will still be a little water left in the ducts, the easiest way to get rid of it is to run the air conditioner; there will be some humidity because of the evaporating water at first, but the air conditioning should strip it out of the air fairly soon. (Assuming the rest of the AC is OK). If you get them dried out quickly enough, there should be minimal mold issues. I hope this is of use to you.
