You may not get a right or wrong answer here, and I as well as others I've read am curious as to why more people don't go more directly to proper sources with questions as specific as this one.

Beyond that No one here can give an "Average" too many variables have been left out in the details for one thing, such as size, any existing embellishments, condition of the substructure and padding, FABRIC choices (which vary by dollars per sq. yd) etc. etc. etc.

I'd wanna think perhaps at least half the cost of the COUCH, when new.

Doc is pretty much correct. It depends....do you want to cover it with cloth, vinyl, leather, etc. It also depends on the quality of couch to begin with. If you purchased a very inexpensive couch, you are probably better off buying another one, but if you bought really good quality wood frame, etc. It would be to your advantage to have it covered. Couches and sofa require different material amounts so it would be a guess.
You mentioned a sectional........how many pieces? Does it have a hide-a-bed in it? These are all contributing factors.
