I found the best way was to give the area a good scrubbing with water and detergent, then allowed it to dry out completely. The odour won't go until completely dry. Then in addition sprinkle on a powdered carpet freshener and leave on several hours before vacuuming off.

Years ago I lived in an apartment that had bad smelling carpet. I tried various cleaning products to no avail. I finally took baking soda and sprinkled it all over the carpet, fairly thick. I left it there for a week, then vacuumed. It took away the odor!

I've had success with products such as Odo-Ban. You can use it on many odors, by itself or with other products. If the odor has permeated the padding on the rug, you may need a professional with a good stem extraction machine to get in there really deep.

Your local pet stores will carry a product called "Nature's Miracle." This product takes any odor, no matter how foul, out ! It is safe for materials. Just use as directed. It's an enzyme that just makes smells disappear! Awesome product. Good luck!

Hi, white vinegar and water is best for this.
also a Friend who is a teacher of infants told me that to get rid of sick smells from fabric is to use the hand wipes- she used it in her car when one of my kids was sick on it.- and she swore by it.
