I'm torn that Barrett was traded!! I don't think Jim Hendry was thinking clearly when he agreed to trade one of the top FIVE catchers in the league!! The amount of offense that Barrett provides from the catcher position is fantastic! I know that his defense has been questionable this season, but if you ask me, his potential for 20+ HR overshadows that. As for the people that have something to say about not being happy with his pitch selection at times, a pitcher can always shake off a pitch!! I'm very disappointed that the Padres got the better end of the deal! All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed that Bowen is able to contribute and help the Cubs win!!!

That was a bad trade for the Cubs good for the Padres. That's all that needs to be said.

Barrett's one of the top 5 catchers in the league, but he has become a clubhouse problem. He has anger issues certainly, and while I'd advocate hitting AJ Pierzynski any day of the week, but fighting your own teammates is another thing entirely. Rob Bowen is a nice pickup for the Cubs, and I think he'll fill in quite well. They're not losing much offensively or defensively there really, and they're bound to have better chemistry in the clubhouse now.

The Cubs had no choice to to trade Barrett. He had difficulty getting along with many of his teammates which would have had an impact on the team for the rest of the year. The Cubs did what they had to do and it's now time to move on.
