Well, I like to take the long view, because, counterintuitively, it is easier to predict. In a few billion years the earth will be pretty much destroyed by the expanding sun. I suspect you are interested in periods closer to a human lifetime, while compared to geological processes,a hundred years or so is virtually nothing, but to human civilization, really large changes are possible, and very hard to predict. For one thing, while fossil fuels might not be gone, I'm sure the more convenient ones will be noticeably scarcer in a hundred years, which means a lot of things will have to be different than they are now
