Hello!

First, let me say, I am NOT a computer tech person. I'm really glad that surfing the web is easy because I don't know a lot about computers, so I hope someone here can help me with advice.

I'm a registered nurse, and I've accepted a job as a travel nurse. This is my dream job, and I'll be traveling all around the country to different locations. I'll be at each location approximately 13 weeks. Arizona for 13 weeks, California for 13 weeks, etc etc etc

Anyway, I'm givng up my big bulky PC that is 6 years old and I'm going to buy a laptop. Can anyone give me suggestions from here?

First of all, should I always do a dial up connection to internet since it would be hard to set up a fast access at every site?

Also, will I have to change my email address every time I change locations?

I've been an MSN dial up subscriber every since I bought a computer 6 years ago, so I don't know about any other sites. I'd prefer to give up the MSN because I pay $23/month

If it were me, I'd be sure that the laptop has a wireless adapter built in. Most do these days but some don't. Stick to a major brand, HP, Dell, Toshiba etc. Dell has had some real deals of late by the way. (If you can still find one get it with XP installed and a free upgrade to Vista -- many are having issues at present with Vista so waiting a few more months is a good deal if you can.)

Plan to use wireless where you can. Most hotels offer that or ethenet internet connections these days so high speed is available to you. It really is easy to setup, in most cases just click connect! I use mine that way very often.

You can get TMobile, AT&T, Verizon internet if you want to keep the same connection all the time. They have wireless cards that connect into the system from most places they have coverage.. It is around 50/month and is ok for travel cetainly beats dial up.

If you need dialup backup you can get services for 10.00 or less from many suppliers. You can probably keep your MSN email address or get a hotmail one which is free and wont matter what connection you use. Even Yahoo has free email so you could get a yahoo address.

Ditch the dialup, most laptops have wireless lan in them. This means you can go anywhere that has wireless internet and access the internet. I would never get dial up. If you happen to be home get high speed internet. The internet companies will give you a modem. If you prefer to use your laptop anywhere in your home get yourself a router, they are not hard to setup.

u can buy any laptop u like but make sure it a light one so its easy to carry. u dont need to change ur email. one email will work fine everywhere. u should buy a wifi brandband plan from cingular or sprint so u can connect anywhere or everywhere. dont do dial up as it will be way to slow. let me know if u need more help.
