Believe it or not I found this in an American collection of superstitions by a scholar namedAlvin Schwartz.The book is amusing and is entitled, 'Cross your fingers.Spit in your hat'. Sophia, dear, you were behind the door when they were handing out senses of humour, poor thing.

If a black cat crosses your path you cross an X in front of you three times with your finger to ward off bad luck. This at least how I heard the superstition.

A black cat crosses my direction pretty much daily. I feed him even even with the undeniable fact that he's a stray and that i call him Lindo Prieto (which potential attractive Black-One). on your case my appropriate propose is: stay faraway from coke. H

Never heard of that. I'd probably have to go back home to get the hat to spit in, and that would alter my path so the cat wouldn't have crossed it, and the whole thing would be negated, wouldn't it? (Of course then I'd be late for whatever I was going to, so maybe that is bad luck in itself.)

I own two black cats and some of my family members are very frightened of this for me but they have been told a misunderstanding and now they believe it. It is supersition only you give them the power. What do you believe in? Life is what you make it... So spit in your hat if you must but I don't think I'd like spit in my hair.

When a black cat crosses your path, folklore says that it's a sign of good luck! So why on earth would anyone spit?

Yes! It never use to be a problem, but ever since I started working in a cat store, I've gone through a dozen hats!

okay i have to honestly say ive never heard of that- turning around and going the other way ive heard of if you believe in black cats being bad luck that is. I have 2 black cats and they are "lucky".......

No. I don't believe in that superstition. I have a black cat and I seem to have hardly any bad luck.

oh come on!! black cats are so cute! i used to have 2 of them and they were sweethearts! i never had bad luck. but their eyes do look scary at night when the light reflects on them LOL.
I hate wearing hats.
