I am 15 yrs old, but turning 16 in July. I'm planning on dropping out of school when I do turn 16. I want to know if I can still get my license if I drop out of school and join a community college to get my GED. So, can I? I already have my permit. Also, I live in the state of Florida.

Please do not flame me as I am not dumb nor am I dropping out of school for a stupid reason. I have straight A's, but I have failed a couple of times and just cannot get back on my feet so I'm just going to take my GED and go to college after that. Thanks.

I have failed a couple times prior to making the grades I have. I'm in 8th grade and should be in 11th. My mom says its my choice because its my life I'm putting at stake. Well, I'm planning on going to college (I've already talked to a community college about this) and I plan to get an asociates degree.

For sure you can obtain your license without your HS diploma. You might have to pay for 100% of the test with your own money but other than that, you should be perfectly fine.

When I was in HS, I threatened to drop out and the principal put me through an accellerated program that allowed me to graduate with a diploma VERY early. Normally schools are very concerned about their drop out rate and will do anything to ensure that you don't drop out. Most of the schools will bend over backwards for you to make sure you stay and obtain your diploma.

Just something to think about.

Drivers License? Yeah, you can get that. You'll have to wait for a little bit, unless you can pay for the Driving school yourself now, but yes, you can. I wouldn't recommend dropping out though.

You may not be stupid, but what you are considering is a stupid thing. What makes you think you will be able to get into the college you want, with just a GED? And what makes you think you will be able to go to college, once you drop out (presumably to work?)

I presume you live at home with parents. What do THEY say about you dropping out?

When you say "straight As" how does that fit with "failed a couple of times"? I think you better check on what your REAL reasons might be for wanting to drop out at such a young age.

The state I live you can't until a certain age.

You are not dumb or stupid, please just think about staying in school, you have straight A's and yes you can get back on your feet. Don't give up. Good Luck

you can go to driving school through a privately owned company. look in the phone book or ask your school to recommend one. you'll have to pay more but you'll probably be able to get your license faster then waiting for your turn in drivers ed at school.

Driver's license does not normally require a high school diploma.
