2-3 times per day and only what they can eat in less than 3 minutes. Do not worry about the excess food it isn't going to destroy your tank. You will get used to how much they will eat after the first or second time so this won't be a problem. You want to be sure however all the fish are eating. Feeding this many fish only 1 time per day isnot nearly enough for them.
Most people tend to under feed their fish thinking it will make the fish fat or they simply just don't need that much food. It is impossiable to overfeed to kill a fish since they will stop eating long before they eat too much. You just don't want a lot of foods hanging around the bottom of the tank, however keeping a routine maintenance schedule will be doing fine.

most small to medium size tropical fish do fine if fed 1 - 3 times per day, the golden rule is to feed only a small amount each time. Feed only the amount of food that your fish can eat in about ten minutes, any excess food can cause pollution of the aquarium water and may lead to fish deaths. With a new aquarium it is best to only feed the fish
once every two days for the first couple of weeks as this will limit the amount of waste the filter has to handle while it is still maturing.

As long as the fish eat what you put in within 2-3 minutes, you should be okay with that amount. If they don't, net out what they don't eat and feed less the next time.
This tank is about 42 gallons for the non-metric users - I hope these fish aren't anything that will grow too large.
If this is a new tank (less than 2 months in operation), the number of fish may be a problem without a fully developed bacterial population to cycle the wastes: http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

the best way to feed your fish is to give them enough food so they just eat for 3 min after the 3 min then take out any un eaten food as this will upset the blance of your water
you can eather feed them once or twice a day its up 2 u
i would suggest every 2 week miss a day and dont feed them at all as this helps there stomach clean out
tropical fish can be left for up to 3 week without food and still be fine so dont worry about under feeding them
hope this helps

If you just set up the tank then yes its too much. If the tank has been set up for several months then no its not too much. The reason behind this is because your tank needs time to build the bacteria colonies that break down the fish waste and left over food. This takes time to establish. Once you have established your tank, then you can increase feedings to as many times a day that you want to feed. Please note that feeding your fish once every other day will help keep the water quality good with infrequent water changes and is perfectly safe for your fish. Good Luck!

Feed your fish two or three times a day, and I'd recommend one small pinch of food per every two fish. Their stomachs are only about as big as their eyes, but even after they eat enough they'll keep eating, and that can end up in ammonia spikes and toxic water. I'd suggest, to make it the easiest, feed them 14 small pinches of food, twelve hours apart.

actually we don't have enough ways on how to detect (if you are pertaining to overfeeding) how many times should we be feeding our fishes. one of the factors that we should consider are the types of fishes you have, the amount they can consume (food), and the ability of your filtration system. well water conditions (levels) should be checked as much as possible for an increase of the baseline data that is normal can cause problems for you and to your fish. overfeeding increases the water condition of your tank (nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, etc) which can be deleterious to your fishes.
