I think that cannabis should be legal to grow and use in any manner and quantity whatsoever, period.

The reasons behind its prohibition are actually quite nefarious, and involve vast fortunes and patents and monopolies that could not have been exploited if hemp had remained a legal alternative. They have NOTHING to do with its psychoactive properties, except that they offered the perfect smokescreen for those pursuing their monopolistic agenda. Any doctor or cop will tell you that alcohol has a FAR worse impact on public health and safety than pot ever had, so the safety issue is out the window. The taxation argument is also bogus. Those who want to grow and use some at home wouldn't be taxed, anyone using it for one of its many commercial uses would be taxed as a normal part of doing business. If and when it's decriminalized, smokers will be only a miniscule part of its consumers.

Hemp is a fabulous source of fiber for textiles (easier than cotton to grow, needs fewer chemicals), pulp for paper (grows back year after year, unlike trees, and uses a less-toxic process than making paper from woodpulp), biomass (natural gas for power), and oil (biodiesel transportation).

All that AND it feeds your head!!

I love to say that I see some of the answer's above mine....and yes it's harmful to the body, but so is cig. so are some medicines, so is drinks people drink....I think people chose have the right to chose what they want....make it they can only grow a few plants, no reselling it, make it they have to be over 18 like cig. People always whine how its so harmful to do things, look at all the things people use that is harmful to something, and that person would the right to chose if they want to do something harmful to their bodies or not! What is the governments choice. People do it anyways! I don't smoke it and that is a choice I make, but there is people that use it for medical reasons, and that is how they get through the day, after cancer treatments, and other medical problems. I think it should be legal to grow if a person choices, if its for personal use.

?

Puzzles me how often this question comes up here. And to those that believe it has never hurt anyone... Wow are you that stoned? It contains more crap than cigarettes... and it certainly hasn't saved any lives.

No matter how you look at it, it is wrong. Medicinal purpose, right... that's a joke. Just another excuse approved by liberally educated doctors.

When it comes right down to it, its all about kids. Do they need to see mom and dad effected by this mind/mood altering substance. No. Don't compair it with alcohol. Not the same, not even close.

Ive done the research on legalities, Ive heard personal accounts, Ive researched the statistics on the subject and I'm done. No way, no how. If you think about it honestly, Its just wrong. Period. Nothing good can ever come of it. That is why it is not accepted today. Social norms.

At the risk of telling on myself, years ago I sold pot---made more money in 15 minutes than I did all week at work.
However, what I learned from being around the drug culture is that not everyone can handle drugs and that one does not know how drugs will affect one until it is too late.

But, you can say the same about alcohol and alcohol is legal.
So, if pot or anything else is to be made legal, then it should be regulated like cigarettes and alcohol.

No.It's a drug and can have many side affects to its use.Marijuana affects memory, judgment and perception
Long -Term Side Effects include-

Cancer
It’s hard to know for sure whether regular marijuana use causes cancer. But it is known that marijuana contains some of the same, and sometimes even more, of the cancer-causing chemicals found in tobacco smoke. Studies show that someone who smokes five joints per day may be taking in as many cancer-causing chemicals as someone who smokes a full pack of cigarettes every day

Lungs and airways
People who smoke marijuana often develop the same kinds of breathing problems that cigarette smokers have: coughing and wheezing. They tend to have more chest colds than nonusers. They are also at greater risk of getting lung infections like pneumonia.

Immune system
Animal studies have found that THC can damage the cells and tissues in the body that help protect against disease. When the immune cells are weakened you are more likely to get sick.

The short-term effects of marijuana include:
problems with memory and learning

distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch)
trouble with thinking and problemsolving
loss of motor coordination; and
increased heart rate.
These effects are even greater when other drugs are mixed with the marijuana; and users do not always know what drugs are given to them

It can also affect the brain
Some studies show that when people have smoked large amounts of marijuana for years, the drug takes its toll on mental functions .Heavy or daily use of marijuana affects the parts of the brain that control memory, attention, and learning. A working short-term memory is needed to learn and perform tasks that call for more than one or two steps.

Smoking marijuana causes some changes in the brain that are like those caused by cocaine, heroin, and alcohol. Scientists are still learning about the many ways that marijuana can affect the brain. Why risk legalizing something you can get hooked on and can hurt you?

Yes, it should be legal to grow it. The act of growing the plant isn't detrimental to anyone. If you studied the toxicity of the average flower garden you might be suprised to find out how poisonous some of it is.

I don't think people should be allowed to smoke weed in public or drive under the influence. If you want to put your own health at risk that's one thing but don't risk the lives of others.

Definitely. I think the government should grow, sell, and tax the stuff with the proceeds going to people with disabilities- and people should be able to grow a plant or two for personal use. People are using it anyway, and there is a crisis helping these needy people. Marijuana is far less harmful than alcohol and it's illegality has far more to do with racism than anything else.

yes. I don't use it, but I've seen it help people. An m.s. patient who was totally bed ridden could speak clearer and had more body control after using it. A person undergoing chemo can eat without throwing up.....I think the pot abusers are doing us a favor. They will never have the ambition and drive to get the better jobs out there, leaving it for us..we can always use an upper hand in that. Plus, drunk drivers kill people everyday..not pot smokers. I used it once and drove..paranoid city! THe speed limit was 25mph, and I think I was going 10!

Yes. Tax it like cigarettes. Pot has never killed anyone. Cigarettes kill 500000 people a year. The Declaration of Independance and the Constitution are made out of hemp. Money was made out of hemp at one time. When it was legal there were very few problems with it. There is lots of fiber and omega 3's in hemp for eating. The part not used can be used as fuel.
