no, when it comes to insulting someone, you generally don't want them laughing at you when you do it.
for instance, "Shut-up you muther fu*ker" is far more potent than "Keep quiet, you old battle axe". Try the first one, then the second and think about which one is more intimidating.
I prefer the first!

I have REFERRED to people as battleaxes but certainly not called anyone this (or anything insulting) to their face.
Battleaxe is a wonderful word, used to describe a woman who is formidable, lays down her own strict rules and doesn't expect anyone to argue with her. It is a slightly old-fashioned word which is generally these days not used without an element of humour or affection. For example, in years gone by, the Matron of a hospital could be described as a battleaxe - likewise the headmistress of a girls' school. One's mother, if she were a disciplinarian, could also be described as a bit of a battleaxe.
It's a lovely, funny, descriptive term which I like to use because I happen to enjoy using quaint, flowery, old-fashioned words - especially for comic effect.

No, but I think I might start using it. That's a hoot. My grandma said, " True Blue Dyed in the Wool B*tch," about some woman and I almost died. I'd never heard her say a bad word, AND I'd certainly never heard that saying before. LOL

Hahaha, no, but I've been called a Viking before. Even though I don't have any Scandinavian blood. Haha.
