My association with Ron Paul comes from having volunteered a LOT of time in his Congressional campaigns from 1996, when he won a seat in Congress in a district adjacent to the one in Houston that he represented into the mid '80s (and was strongly opposed by the Republican Party establishment), thru probably the 2000 election. He can run much more limited campaigns these days because he has little opposition ... odd, don't you think, since he's winning while holding positions that other candidates claim that they can't win with.
While working in those campaigns and riding along on other trips throughout his very large district from time to time, I had plenty of chances to discuss issues with him and can state with absolute certainty that he lives and breathes the philosophy of freedom. He IS authentic. He did not run for office so he'd have a good paying and/or high profile job ... he ran so that he'd have a larger platform from which to articulate the message of individual liberty.

Ron Paul did run for President for the Libertarian party, several presidential elections ago. Imo, Libertarians have excellent ideals but big business is not backing them with money contributions.
Ron Paul is serious and realizes it takes "BIG BUCKS" to get elected to President. The Republican party apparently HAS Big Bucks to back their Presidential nominee.
If Jeffersons Democratic-Republican party was still around today, imo, that's the party Ron Paul would be a member of.

If you start with the assumption capitalism has 'failed' you beg the question. I would ask when, recently, was it tried, given we have been running our economy on debt, not capital? However, if that is your point of view, you likely wouldn't entirly support him with socialists on the ballot. We might still get together on the odd position such as against war or for civil liberties, however. Otherwise, the CPUSA or Mckinney, Obama or McCain, might be more your style. I'd recommend one of the first two over the last two, myself. But personally, I'm writing in Ron Paul.

Gee do you think all of America is just like a district ouside of Houston?
Say what you will he doesn't have a chance and you are one of the reasons. Constant pestering on the boards and blogs of the Internet make people turn off to a candidate.
If he wants to get nominated he is in the wrong party. He needs to approach the Libertarian Party which he is anyway. Maybe they will give him a chance at the top spot. He surely isn't going to get it from the GOP.
I would assess his chances as those of an ice cube in the Sahara desert on the hottest day of the year.
I am so sick of Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul I could just puke. Even if I had any desire to know more about him I would be turned off because of the constant nagging on the boards and blogs. It is a cheap way to campaign which he has to use, of course, because he has no financial support. People don't donate to the campaign of an obvious loser.

He seems like an attractive candidate right now because he actually seems to believe in something, and doesnt just seem to be mouthing platitudes that he thinks wont offend anyone like the rest of the flaccid whitefish candidates out there.
Question is, can an honest, straightforeword person with real ideas and ideals win the Presidency?
Kinda sad that we have to ask that question, aint it?

Just can not win against the Democrats even if he was able to obtain Republican nomination and to me right now that is more important beating the Dems in 08 so they can not drive our country back to liberalism or this new progressism of Sanders and the like in the Senate.

His voting record tells it ALL. He is Libertarian.
Read his record. That is FACT not opinion.
He may be honest, but I don't think he should be President.
The Libertarian Party should have its own convention and candidates and PUBLISH its platform for ALL to see and read!
