I have a double ended white coloured plastic bath. One of my children has badly marked the inside of it with what I think is an ink pen, so it now has a lot of dark coloured scratches. The bath cost me approx. £800 5 years ago and I am now thinking of selling my house. I do not want to buy a new bath, does anybody have any ideas as to how I can remedy this problem?

I would like to thank all of you for your answers - i really didn't know what to do. We use MER for polishing the car, but had not thought of using it for the bath, so I will be trying that first.

if you go to an auto supplier you should be able to buy MER use this as directed on the instructons and it should get out the ink pen as it acts like t-cut polish.

Yep. Go ahead with Tcut from any good autofactors or Halfords and Brasso works just as well. I was a bodyshop foreman for many years and these products did the business on all types of car finishes .Just use it sparingly and keep checking for effect. If the scratches are just surface scuffs caused by the builders brick dust then you may notice that the brick dust stains the scuffed area.A light brush with toothpaste might help here before using the Tcut or Brasso .Hope you find this helpful !!

At a auto supply store find some 1200 fine sand paper get the kind that is marked wet or water sand paper. Take this sand paper and with water sand this area until you see that the mark is gone then polish this area with fine car rubbing compound til it shines then use car polish to make it shine like new. you can clean the whole tub using fine car rubbing compound and car wax to make any bath tub look new. Never us Brass-0 or any other abbrassive cleaner on your bath tub it will destroy your finish.

if they are not too deep you may be able to polish them out. there is a car polish called mer try it. it's in a blue plastic container it can be used for many things. you may be able to still get pre-mixed white gel coat from a boat chandler's they will be the best place to ask this q anyway. due to plastic boats needing minor repairs. hydrogen peroxide may get rid of ink but beware of anything you try as it could lead to a bigger problem. so always test first where it wont be seen
best of luck

Go to the auto parts store and purchase a paint pen for scratches on your car. It will fill in the scratches but not take away pen marks.

I recommend resurfacing the tub. It is relatively affordable for cast iron tubs, but even with fiberglass (or plastic?) I'll bet it's less expense and trouble than replacing the bath.

In the U.S. we have Angie's list, an index of consumer responses and ratings for home improvement services. I wonder if you have something like that in the UK?

Good luck!

Try a whitening toothpaste It MAY remove the marks and light scratches plus polish at the same time. Good luck.

Any auto parts store will have the supplies to buff the scratches out. It takes some elbow grease but it works.

Marked or scratched?

If scratched then you will not find anything to fill them

If marked you might find a proprietry cleaner once you know what kind of ink was used.

Get a canister of liquid Brasso (UK) get into a bathing suit, get cotton rags, get into the bath and rub like hell with plenty of the liquid, and you will be favourably impressed with the results.
