The thing with America is that the culture is very loose when it comes to education. It's not like Japan or Korea where it's: Be smart or die. (that's why we came to america, me and my mother)

There is so much freedom when it comes to schooling in America. So it's hard to tell, generally. People get to really choose whether they want to be smart or not. It's personal responsibility, alot of the times.

What do I think of the average american? Well I haven't gotten out of the house enough to be very accurate, but I say everyone has a subject they're good at, whether it's math, science, animals, or fashion.

Yes they are. The regular American is a rather intelligent, well read and well informed person. It's when these people get plopped together as a group that they become bullish cranky and panicky. They revert from being intelligent individuals to herd-like creatures that will follow the first idiot that says something remotely soothing. This happened right after 9-11-01. You'll notice we promptly lost a great deal of our Civil rights soon after and have been led around by our noses since then. We've been led into a war we can't get out of, our economy has crashed and our nation has become the evil empire of the world -- because the Intelligent common American became a panicked herd animal.
God bless us and help us all.

Common in America is not a norm it itself. I think that most Americans do not live up to their own expectations because of laziness and Racism. I am a white woman who has prided herself with education and a great job, but along with my education I also have common sense, which alot of people who live in America is lacking. Watch that movie Idocrocy with Luke Wilson, it is not so far fetched. I doubt it will ever happen but if you think about 2007 as the starting point, most smart people are not reproducing in huge numbers it is more of the less educated welfare society that is reproducing in mass numbers. I personally have 1 child who is 10, this girl I went to High school with who still lives with her Grandma currently has 4 kids and is so not the brightest color in the box!!!

Again not to far fetched!!!! LOL!!!

I am from Mexico but I have lived in the US for 8+ yrs.....I will say this, an American is smart, but they way they are educated specially in school, raises them sort of like little robots that can't look to the sides, only forward. I think they are smart but HUGELY lack culture and common sense as well as practicality.

Like at parties, I always tell girls I'm form Protugal, and when I ask them if they knwo where it is at, they think South America or something like that!! And I start speaking jiberish and they think I am for real!!

I think the education and the way they are raised should be changed in order to be able to keep this country as the world power and make use of the brains so few of them do

QUE VIVA MEXICO Y U.S.A!!!

are we talking smart or intelligent? I believe the common American is a smart person. I am smart but where do my smarts lay? That is the question. I am smart in some areas and just plain stupid in others.

I believe the common American possesses the ability to gain greater knowledge but I feel far too many never live up to what they are capable of.

Umm, no!! Have you looked around at the endless hoards of morons surrounding you lately? Need proof, just go to Walmart and sit and people watch for an hour or so, then you'll be completely convinced of the utter lack of intelligence of this great nation.
