I have a 1 car garage that was built in the 50's. The foundation is fine but it needs a new roof, siding, 2 windows and a garage door. The question is, would it be the same price to fix it as it would to have have it torn down and build a new one?

Fix the orignal garage, you can avoid pulling permits & of course then comes the increase in taxes. So fix the existing garage it will save a lot of $$$ in the long run & headaches.

Things built in the 50's sometimes are hard to dispose of. You have to get the siding tested for asbestus (or at least I did) and then you have to get permits to tear it down and in some places even to fix it up. I live in city limits so there was alot of red tape for the destruction of my garage. You say the foundation is good so at least there is some there to work with. Every guy needs a garage (safe place)

I think it would be cool to fix it up you could put like some antique decoration things in it it would look good i thing but your a guy so you probably wouldnt want to spend all your time doing that so i guess i wrote this long message to tell you IT'S YOUR DECISION!

The cost of tearing it down and having it hauled away would probably be high. Then the cost of new lumber (and permits) would be another cost. You would most likely be further ahead to fix it.
