Israel has been waiting for a way to ethnically cleanse Gaza and the West Bank since 1967. For PR reasons a genocide per se was out of the question. Now that the media has managed to convince US/Europe public opinion that Hamas is irrational and radical, Israel and the US have been able to 1. Strangle Palestine through a Blockade for electing Hamas 2. Attack the Palestinian government without risking a public outcry 3. Clean Palestine of Arabs by making living conditions intolerable and now by openly attacking the strip.
I expect the settlements to recommence soon enough, while the US media portrays Palestinians as the aggressors.
Question: All of you blaming Palestine and claiming this is self defense.... How did you manage to forget that Israel was arming and training Fatah to fight Hamas before Hamas defended itself? How did you forget that Palestine is under an Israeli occupation? DO you forget facts that disprove claims of Israeli victimhood? The evidence stands against such a conclusion. Sorry.

The war is ongoing. Anything Israel does can be considered self preservation because Hamas has vowed to destroy Israel. World opinion alone must be all that is keeping Israel from squashing Hamas like a bug.
Look at Zahar's statements - Hamas will consider a cease-fire IF Israel withdraws its forces but "noone will be the protector of Israel's borders"! In other words - "you take your knife from my throat, let me up, and I'll wait a few seconds before I attack you again!"
Madness! If all the Islamic hatred of Israel(and the money spent to support it) was turned to concern and care for the Palestinians they would be rich and comfortable in the very Arab states that "support" them(with rockets and guns) in their futile bid to oust the Israelis!

Why must we continue to pretend to fight PC Wars? There is no such thing as a PC war, as in, you can't keep bending over backwards to protect the innocent. I don't think we gave a tinker's damn about civilians in war until after WWII, then the instant media outlets made every war unwinable if you fight it with your hands tied.
Case in point, the Israelis are letting the most seriously wounded enemies out of Gaza. Why? Because they don't want to be viewed as evil, yet, that is precisely what their enemies think of them anyway. You don't debate with evil, you can't persuade pure evil by words alone, you must show evil you are willing to meet it head on - apply directly to the forehead.

It's funny when some one gets attacked the libs blames the victims instead of the attackers. In this the U.N. should let Israel take the cloves off. They should have gotten out of the way years ago.

I think it is absurd that Israel is allowed to take any kind of action at all when they have taken control of Gaza when it does not belong to them. I think Palestinians have been more than gracious so far.
Why isn't the UN cracking down on Israel for such horrible actions against civilians. If Hamas took control of the gov't then hit the gov't buildings where they are. Don't kill more innocent civilians.

Hamas has stated their intentions with regard to Israel. Given the chaos of Hamas and Fatah battling each other, it was warranted.
Once again Israel took the higher ground in letting sick and injured Palestinians into Israel for treatment.
When was the last time Hamas did something benevolent?
