Well if you really love to swim then go for it i sayy. The positives are that you will stay in shape and can show off your friends in the pool seeing how you can swim way faster than them! hahaha! But thats the only negative thing that you have to wear a speedo! But if you love swimming join the team. I would i love swimming too.

Positive Reasons to Join the Swim Team
- Team becomes family. You make plenty of friends and are tight with those people.
- Fitness. No brainer!
- Improved technique. The more you swim, the better you get. The better your coach, the better you get. The better you get the more you win!!!
- Challenging. If you enjoy a personal challenge, swimming is for you. Not only are you swimming for your team but you're swimming against yourself. Swimmers are constantly trying to get faster and beat their personal records.
- Pride. Being on a team gives you something to be proud of and something to represent, which will lead to good decision making (God willing!)
- Good looking members of the opposite sex (hey come on you know it's true!!!)
- Chanes to go places (Nationals, etc), meet other swimmers, get scholarships, obtain medals, break records, etc.
- Swimming doesn't create character, it DEFINES it!

Negative Aspects of Joining the Swim Team
- It's time consuming. Swimming is a hard sport and requires dedication. It requires practices and full-day meets and a few Saturdays. Are you willing to give that?

Actually a lot of coaches these days won't require their swimmers to wear Speedos, you do have some other options in that regard. As for whether or not you should join I'd say it's some great exercise and you can also meet a lot of people while you're on the team.

For other swimming apparel besides briefs (commonly called Speedos considering that they're the company's biggest selling item worldwide) you have various options such as jammers, halfskins (as we call them) and fastskins. Jammers are like Tour de France shorts that competitive manual bikers wear for races, they go from your hips to right above your knees. Half skins are suits that'll cover all the way from your waist to your ankles and fastskins are like really tight wetsuits, they cover your whole body. Fastskins are normally worn for championship events like States or Regionals while halfskins can be found at both regular events and championship events. Jammers are common practice suits and are worn by a lot of JV crews and briefs or Speedos are your all-around use swimming apparel.

As for whether you should join a team it'd be really beneficial for you. Your caloric intake shoots up in season and if you watch your diet right then it's possible to really burn off some unwanted weight. And as I said before you meet a lot of kids while you're on the swim team and it makes it a lot more fun. You always have a lot of time to talk before practice and afterwards so conversation is rarely minute. A lot of kids I know in school are on the swim team like me and even one of our big English projects was consisted of all swimmers so maybe I would've been on my own for that project had I not been on the swim team (we're also YouTube stars now, yea 76 hits!)

Who says you have to wear a Speedo suit? If you enjoy the water, and want a fun way to stay in good shape, then join the team. As for the negatives, it's not as if joining a team is a mandatory function of life. If you don't like it, then try something else.
