Im 6'4" 215 lbs and its 80 - 85 degrees in our bedroom. My wife is 5' 3" 130 lbs and says its way too hot to fall asleep. Why would she be too hot yet Im fine, I admit its warm, but not too hot. We cant turn on the AC because our 1 year old always gets sick when we turn it on, plus we want to conserve energy and money. Is there something about her diet or lack of excersize that she can change to help her sleep?

We have two fans going at all times. 1 on her and one ceiling fan. The AC blows right on to my sons crib and it gets him cold, then he gets a cold 90% of the time. Our house is only 6 months old, so no mold or mildew.

The only windows we have are french doors and they dont have a screen yet, so she is afraid of bugs flying intot he room. The reaosn I brought up the weight is because I am much larger than her, so I should be hotter, right?

she could be hot because of hormones, because of age, because the humidity affects her more, or maybe even some changes in her body because of her having a child, etc. but for her it has nothing to do with weight, diet or lack of exercise. If your 1 year old gets sick when you turn on the ac then change your filter and have your ac cleaned. If your ac needs cleaned, if it's blocked, or has an old filter, or is using one of those 6-month filters then it does send a sickening kind of humidity into the room and that may be why she and your child are uncomfortable and feeling sick. That sticky feeling may get worse as the home gets hotter due to climate chante. Buy several fans. I have four fans for a small apartment.

If your electric bill is high you might want to consider some ways to keep the heat out.

HI
this is always a subject of couples. Some questions for your wife.

Do you have difficulty keeping your weight on?
Do you have so much energy that you get tired easily?
Is the lump in your neck, your thyroid gland, stick out more than most people- or that you feel it is?
Can you eat a great deal of food and never seem to put on weight?

If you can answer yes to most of the questions you could have hyperthyroidism. This condition can be treated and pregnancy can put the thyroid on over drive and sometimes not return to normal function.

This could be a reason you feel extremely hot. Please see your doctor. A couple of simple blood tests will confirm or deny the condition.

In the mean time, put ice in a bowel and let the fan blow over it. The cool air from the ice will ease some of your distress. Also try and not eat spicy foods, hot drinks, or hot showers. Put your mattress on the floor, remember hot air rises. What kind of insulation do you have in your house? Yes insulation is not only for keeping the cold out, but keeping the hot air out as well. If you don't know, ask the builder.

Hope this helps.
Pam

I fully understand about trying to save money on your electric
bill, but the temperature in your bedroom is too hot for comfortable, healthy sleep for anyone - including your baby.
Rearrange your bedroom so your baby is not directly under the vent - put your bed there. Compromise on a temperature, say 73 - 75 degrees - you can cover up if you are too cool. She could take a cool bath or shower.
Do you really want her to be miserable all night? Have either of you had your thyroid levels checked? Do you drink alcoholic beverages before retiring? Do you work outdoors in the heat?
It doesn't seem that diet or exercise would have anything to do with this situation. We are all different and it sounds like you and your wife need to work on an agreeable balance in temperature. (My bedroom is 73 degrees - With a ceiling fan).

Her metabolism could be higher than yours which causes her body to "heat up". She should try sleeping in clothes that are made of a very breathable fabric such as 100% cotton, and the same goes for the bed sheets. She should also make sure she is getting the recommended amount of water during the day. A shower before bed could help lower her temperature long enough for her to fall asleep. If nothing else works, you may want to rearrange the furniture in the bedroom, so that your child's bed is not in the way of the A.C. , and your wife's side of the bed gets full breeze from it. Although if your wife's temperature issues become incredibly uncomfortable for her, she should consult her physician.

80 - 85 degrees is hot!! Wow not surprising she can't sleep. I keep my temp to under 68 if possible. My husband is the same size as you and I'm the same size as your wife and we have no problems with temp. I think you are the one with the problem don't blame your wife's lack of exercise or diet. If she's 5'3" and 130 good for her after having a baby!!! Try turning the temp down and you can wear pj's if you're cold.

Some people just feel the heat more than others. There's nothing wrong with her weight, I can't comment on her diet because you don't mention what she eats regularly. Maybe she can get a fan and use that at night just to help get the air moving on her side of the room. If it's cooler outside than in, try opening the windows and getting a breeze going, you can even install a window fan to help draw in the cooler air, or suck out the heat, depending on how you have it set up (they're pretty cheap at most big discount stores). If you try these tactics and you're cold, get yourself a blanket.

one her weight has nothing to do with this. two is it only a one bedroom home? three it is a new home for her have you ever thought that the change creates problems and if the baby was recently born hormones are changing once again also if she breast feed for the majority of the year. change the set up of your room put the baby in his own room tell her to not wear heavy clothes to bed. good points on thyroid but also look into panic causes people not to sleep and be over heated also the change of life if she is in her mid 30's to early 40's.

I would say that is hot to sleep in! I'm not comfortable unless it is 75 or lower.

Try fans. A/C does not make children sick. Cold does not make children sick. Viruses and bacteria make children sick. A doctor will tell you the same thing. It doesn't matter how old your house is mold and mildew are very common problems. They can grow in hours. You may not have the problem in your house per se but you can absolutely have them in the a/c. It sounds like you have mold or mildew growing in the unit which is causing the illness. Cleaning it will take care of it.

You don't mention her age. Could she be starting to get "hot flashes?" Does she have metabolic disorder like a thyroid problem? Also move the kid's crib away from the AC vent. That one is a no brainer.

Been there done that. Every one is different. Strike a happy medium. Find a temp that she can sleep in and you and the baby can use a light cover or something. The A/C needs cleaning. That is what is causing the problem with the baby!
