I have a computer about 5 years old with the Intel Celleron 1.7 GHz and I'm looking to buy a computer with the Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.6GHz. Now I'm kinda out of the loop with the tech stuff, what's the difference between the two? How much faster is the Dual-Core?

Actually only in aplications made for use of multiple cores ( Pendium Dual core has 2 cores and the celeron has 1) can actually bring the performance double as celeron. For the aplications that are not optimized u will have only one core => the difference will be almost the same as Pentium 1.6ghz single core and celeron 1.7 which still is something. In both cases the celeron is behind and gets dust in the face at aplications that are optimized . Go for pentium dual core ... forget celeron

The Dual- Core is a lot better then the Celeron. The Dual- core has two cores which basically means it can process two things at once, making the Dual core twice and fast as the Celeron. Of course the Dual core is made a lot better and is a lot more energy officiant too.

The dual core can be thought of as being twice as fast because it is the same as having two processors, except now they are built onto the same chip.

The 1.7ghz Celeron doesn't come close to a Pentium Dual Core.

The Pentium dual core E5500 is the better chip.

of course it's more faster than your Celeron 1.7GHz.... How Fast? it's depend on your other CPU component (RAM,MotherBoard,etc)...
Theoriticaly, Dual-Core runs 2x faster....

just a rule of thumb, everything is better than a celeron, so there is little reason to bother compairing it with anything else
