MORE than the food? Never! If the food isn't good, we're not going. But the ambiance is certainly a factor in making the choice, given the food is known to be really good. On special occasions, it has often been the deciding factor between equally fine restaurants. The last meal we had before my wife flew off to the coast was in a candle-lit wine cellar where the chef prepares some of the best fancy food around. Sounds gimmicky, but it was very romantic, and the food was very good. My wife loved it.

I do. I can remember the decor and ambience of restaurants, but rarely the food, even if the food was good. I guess I have a habit of looking around and soaking it in (and keeping an eye on servers and cleanliness) from having been in the business for so long. Hazard of the business!

I think the ambiance of a restaurant is very important but I think if the food is not of very good quality, it will not matter how romantic the place is. Also, the reason for dining should be considered in deciding which is more important. For instance, if just an everyday dinner then the food absolutely should be the top reason for choosing a restaurant. However, if going for a special occasion then both should be considered!

The ambience usually steers us towards one place over another, but we will not return if the food isnt up to par.

Last year we dined at a very trendy place that was also quite expensive. The food was good, but not THAT good. We havent been back.

Most diffentenly! I'm a good cook and I love to do it so when I eat out I look for atmosphere to enhance the food experience. If I feel like I could have done better at home the atmosphere and company often make up for the food.

Ambiance is very important. When I go out to eat, I want to relax and have a good time, so restaurants with a cool, relaxing atmosphere win me over. The food must be good too and worth what I'm paying.

yup, i am all about the way something looks - it could be the tastiest thing ever and if it looks like crap i wont eat it. I have issues with casseroles, never know what can sneak in there! I have issues with the texture of a food as well..... if its slimy I'm spitin it out for sure!

sure. the food is supposed to be the main reason for eating out, but the atmosphere is important to me. especially if with a bunch of friends, we will be cutting up and enjoying ourselves if the place is comfy, the food will be an after thought

To me, ambiance is equally as important as food. If I simply want food, I will go to the grocery store. Dining out is about the experience.

No ...ambiance I can get in many other places without having to pay for it.... When I am going out to eat, I want a good meal ... not wanting to pay extra because of the way they decorated their place...
