If you identify as trans and are happy being perceived that way, more power to you. Nothing wrong with it. But "passing" isn't always a matter of hiding to people- for some people yes, it's hiding and it's safety, since out trans individuals are very likely to be discriminated against, but sometimes it's just that who they are, who they like to be seen as and treated as, isn't "androgynous/trans" but actually a side of the spectrum (male/female) their natural body didn't match. If you're a guy born with a woman's body, maybe you just want people to see you as a guy- you don't want to make a political statement about who you just happen to be.
I don't think one way of looking at it is better or worse than the other. It's just about individual differences.

Good for you! Be who you are, be proud of who you are, and never let anyone try to tell you to be different. Society, for the most part, is given voice by the ignorant. I try my darnedest to ignore what society says and make my own opinions.
EDIT: Corey, sometimes a double post comes from inadvertently hitting the submit button twice. It's not a crime to make a mistake.

I don't want to have to make a statement when I'm walking to the deli to pick up coffee and cigarettes. I want to be able to choose when I have to take a political stand.

my friend said he got the surgery because he felt like a woman trapped in a mans body. he said that he got the sex change to be a woman and that he didn't want to look in the mirror after the surgery and still have that man looking back at him.
