Why did they choose these states to live in? because of job oppotunities or what?

now states on the southern border, especially arizona and new mexico, are receiving many latin american immigrants, leagal and illeagal. florida is also home to many immigrants. new york, specifically new york city, has always had a diverse crowd. this was very true back in the times when people had to pass through ellis island. but even today many foreiners live there.

Don't forget about Georgia. There are a LOT of immigrants there both legal and illegal. Especially in the northwest region where there are manufacturing jobs.
