The band REM once sang :
"It's the end of the world as we know it
And I feel fine"
2012 gets kicked around a lot as the year the world ends from a bunch of different groups, but there is a very small seed of truth to this thought.
The baby boom generation (the huge increase of population that resulted after the end of World War Two) is the largest single age demographic that is currently active in the world.
These people are active in business, the labor force, government, education and so on.
2012 is the year this group will turn 65 years old and begin to retire, starting to withdraw their money from their retirement savings, starting to leave the work force.
They will have more free time, increasingly poorer health and fewer contributions to the tax coffers of the countries they live in.
No one really knows what changes are going to happen, but there will be some interesting changes, especially as the baby-boomers realize they don't have enough money to live on and try to scrounge up additional savings over the next 5 1/2 years.
I except you'll see a lot more 'Get Rich While You Can' programs coming out, aimed at older people, things like flipping real estate, reverse mortgages, wild stock speculation.
We ARE looking at the end of an era, but not the end of the world.

The world will go on for a long, long time. Whether or not man will be on it to witness it is another question. I don't think the cultural rifts between all countries is anwhere near the point of total annihilation, so 2012 is a little pessimistic. There have always been those saying the "end of the world is nigh" (they even had them during the dark ages) so don't worry too much about it, when it comes, just know that there wasn't much that you could do about it.

Why 2012? Because the end of a cycle in the mayan calendar definitely means the world is going to end? Um...the year 2000 was the end of a cycle in the gregorian calendar, but the world didn't end then, what's special about the mayan calendar? That's right, nothing, really. The world is going to remain in existence well past 2012, trust me.

I can tell you that for anyone reading this, our world will end for us within the next 100 years. None of us will live longer , the world known to us will end at our death. It really doesn't matter when the planet earth comes not to exist, we can't do one thing about that.

I dont think the world will come to an end...
I just think people will all kill eachother so their wont be any of us left.
Think about it..animals dont go and kill eachother for no reason.
But 2012, I sure hope not.

I find that putting literal religious doctrine into the material world could be a dangerous thing. The best we can do is adhere to whatever faith you choose, or connect to the principal. Either way, spirituality and material world's end should not be linked.

I have to disagree with the person who answered with, "Ask Noah..." even Noah didn't know WHEN God's judgment was coming. He just knew it was coming, so he was busy building. And when judgment came, God said "Come thou...into the ark." guess where God was? So my advice is, no one knows when the end will be. Stop worrying about it. And find out Who determines the end, come with Him into the place of refuge, and bypass judgment on that day.
