I've found that the messiest part of my house is my kitchen at the end of the day. When my kitchen is dirty, I don't want to clean anything, it just overwhelms me. This is what I've done to prevent that:

Invest in a dishwasher. It can be built in, or portable, but please, use it! It takes away the dread of washing dish after dish, and doesn't use much more water than handwashing them!

Devote one day to cleaning your kitchen. Pile all your dishes into the dishwasher (or if you absolutely do not have one, wash a load of dishes, walk away for ten minutes, put away the clean dishes and wash another load. do this until they are all washed). Once the dishes are cleaned AND PUT AWAY, fill your sink with some hot water, dish soap and about a tablespoon of bleach. Look at your countertops and put away any appliance that you don't use daily. Using a rag and the soap/bleach mix in the sink, wipe down your countertops, stove, table, cabinet doors, fridge, oven door, and any other visible surface. Drain the sink, then wipe down the sink. (If your sink has an odor, you can stop up the sink, fill it with some bleach and let it set overnight, or pour baking soda down the drain) Fill the sink with a mop solution (i use a little bit of dish soap, and a little bit of pine cleaner with water). Sweep the kitchen floor, then mop. Your kitchen should sparkle, and it really doesn't take long!

Once my kitchen is clean, I usually feel much better about keeping the house clean, but here are some other tips:

Whenever you walk through a room, pick up one thing that doesn't belong there and put it away. This keeps things at least a little under control.

Vaccuum at least daily. If you have babies or a lot of foot traffic, once at night and once in the morning (short, quick runs of the vaccuum) will help.

Keep your dirty laundry (including towels, dish towels, and socks) all in one spot in the house. That way, you aren't treking through the entire house picking up clothes everywhere.

When cooking, keep some hot soapy water in the sink so you can wash dishes as you use them and wipe up messes before they dry/become sticky.

File your paperwork (mail, contracts, bills, etc.) immediately. Don't let yourself set down a piece of paper unless you are directly dealing with it. Throw out junk mail, newspapers you have already read (or won't get around to reading), and anything you don't really need before it ends up frustrating you later.

If you have other people living with you, assign them chores (I ask my husband to clean up the dishes after dinner and my daughter to pick up her toys she leaves laying around). They live there too, and you shouldn't be expected to follow them around and pick up anything they throw down.

Assign a room a day to really clean. I have assigned my house as follows:
Monday: Living room (clean slip cover on couch, dust, wipe baseboards)
Tuesday: Kitchen (mop floor, clean out fridge, clean under sink, wipe down cabinets/appliances, bleach sink)
Wednesday: Bathroom (clean toilet, sink, mirror, tub; sweep floor; mop floor)
Thursday: Office (organize paperwork, pay bills, manage checkbook, clean desk)
Friday: TV Room (clean electronics, dust, clean mirror, vacuum chairs)
Saturday: any room that needs more attention

It's hard work, but if you kick yourself one weekend, and get the whole house clean, and keep it clean for a week, you'll look at it and be really happy with yourself.

Good luck

First realize that everyone hates housework. Your motivation has to come from somewhere other than enjoyment, or you're never going to get it done.

The two things that work for me are, first, realizing that I have a responsibility as an adult to do the work keep my apartment clean. I deal with this by scheduling a specific, regular time (Sunday mornings, for me) when I do the whole job, and then do any small jobs that crop up during the week at the time I notice them - no procrastinating.

The second is the satisfaction I get from having a clean and presentable apartment. I have a friend who is really bad at cleaning, and when he had his own place, it was just about unlivable - stinking, filthy, piles of crap everywhere. I look around my apartment, and compare it to his, and I cannot help but feel good about my accomplishment.

Hi there sister! I also hate housework. I'm not lazy, I just hate the monotony of doing the same thing day after day and having it torn down day after day. Besides, it's just boring.
First thing....if you know someone who keeps a really dirty house, go for a quick visit. That motivates me and makes me feel better about how mine looks. If that doesn't work I go outside for a while and play in my garden. Then when I come in I seem to have more energy for the boring stuff. I just cannot clean without music. I crank up my favorite tunes and take it one room at a time.

go shine your sink! Take out all dirty dishes. Put hot water up to the brim on one side and add 1 cup bleach. Let that sit for an hour then drain. Do this to both sides. Rinse well then scrub with comet or baking soda. Rinse well then dry it completely then spray with windex and your sink will shine and almost blind you! You need to dry your sink so there are no water spots! This motivated me. It is part of flyLady. This is a yahoo group. You need a good cleaning routine.... That way things don't get out of control... I have a specific day I do laundry, scrub the bathrooms/appliances.. My house stays pretty clean... Also, I find if you vacuum everyday it really cuts down on the dust... I have 2 small children and a dog, but my house stays pretty neat and clean. Aside from toys everywhere...!!! I clean my kitchen throughout the day and I mop it everynight.. I also clean up the toys strewn about at night.... Just find a routine that works for you and stick with it....

I don't think anyone likes housework? Don't we wish we could wake up to a clean house everyday? Well the best way to have it done is by first keeping the place as tidy as possible. Like when you cook, wash up used utensils as you go along so you only have the after meal dishes to wash. Try and do your vacuuming in the evening before going to bed, so you don't have to wake up too early to do it and cut short your sleep. If you can, have some loud music and a drink while you clean up, it makes the whole process bearable. Tell me how it goes.

Cleaning my House is one chore I have always Loved, because I like everything Clean and Organized. First thing to remember about keeping a House Clean is, " If you mess up something such as your Kitchen, Clean it up RIGHT Then, do not put it off. When you wake up in the morning, Make your bed THEN. Keep a Sponge beside your Kitchen and Bathroom sink and if you get Crumbs or water on the counters, Sponge it up Right Then. Alot of people put off doing Laundry until they have 2 or 3 loads to do, as soon as I have enough to do 1 Load, I wash and fold them and hang up permanent Press items, right THEN>>The main reason for a person to hate to clean a House or do laundry is they allow it to build up and become a Major Chore. if you always remember to clean up after yourself and your family if you have one (teach them to also clean up after themselves) it will make Cleaning the House a Pleasant Chore instead of a hated one...

spend 15 minutes a day cleaning be it dusting the livingroom, emptying the dishwasher, cleaning the bathrooms, reward yourself with something you like after you have tackled some of the chores be it a mani or a pedi or shopping whatever. also turn on the tunes and get 'er done.

Just try to put everything up as you go.I use baskets in every room and empty them as I drink coffee in the morning.I hate coming home to clutter.I like people to see a clean space when they do come over.A basket looks like it is going to be put away, and it is.Thanks for 2.
