I totally agree with you; although there are some things today that actually get my head to bobbing, most of it's like, 'WTF!? That's the dumbest **** I've EVER heard!' And what's worse, most of the kids really like the stuff!
All I hear is, 'look at all the cars I have,' 'I'm blinging now I'm out the hood', 'all the women love me now I got money'...
...there's some truth to that last one, 'cause some of those guys that call themselves rapping are so ugly, that if they were still broke, no chick would give them the time of day.
I find myself listening to the 90's rap as well as some neo-soul, and some conscious rappers. Also, some older R&B; most of these young cats that's out here now are so cookie-cutter it' s a shame.

Rap industry is a business, therefore, record companies are in it for profit. That's capitalism at work for ya.

But why do you people continue to buy their cds if it sucks so bad to you? Obviously, most people that listen to rap like it if they won't stop buying the music.

There's quite a few skilled rappers, but they don't get on the airwaves because all these damn people care about are T-Pain hits, which all have the SAME beats and are either about buying someone a drink or chillin' with a bartender and "Ey bay bay"....

But I do like how some of the more creative artists use sampling in their songs to make the music sound more real, and less manufactured.

The south is killing me, and I'm from Atlanta lol. Only salvation in the south is Lil' Wayne, Ludacris, Young Jeezy and T.I.

Not all rap is bad though, because there's a decent amount of good rappers still in the game. All that needs to happen is playing their music instead of the lame garbage.

The quality of rap music has declined considerably over the past 10-15 years. The originality and creativity is gone. One thing I notice is when you listen to the background music that accompanies the rap lyrics, a lot of times you someone elses music.

But I agree. A lot of it is crap today. I will say not all is crap. There are some nice things out there. But there is much more trash than there are treasures when it comes to rap today.

Rap/Hip-Hop is the most nauseating sound to ever emit from a speaker! At least in Punk-Rock, they are actually playing instruments -not very well, but playing nonetheless. Actually, the first Rap with Run DMC and L.L. Cool J. was kinda different and fun for a very short time. I thought it would fade quickly. Then came all that gangsta crap! What a joke that stuff is!

You are so correct and in my opinion Rap in the 80's was better than the 90's. But to stick to you question I have two names to throw at you that defined the 90's era of rap that should squash anyone out there who tries to say this "look at me and all my bling" rap or this "look at my new dance move" rap, and that is Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur. And before them in the 80's Eric B. and Rakim (Rakim being the most talented lyrist ever). Also from the 80's who cannot be touch buy anyone out there The D.O.C. I challenge anyone to name a rapper who has came out since 2000 who can touch any of these people.

It was much better...music now has no validity...back in the 90's record labels actually believed in something called artist development....that is way you still see a lot of artists(well, the good ones) they are still around in some shape form or fashion. Nowadays, they just want that one single, but the albums are pure garbage!!! There is probably not one album out right now that you can listen to all the way through without skipping a song!!

I agree- anyone can rhyme the words hot and not and repeat them over and over again and that new song I heard today (i have no idea who it is) that uses the background music from a Drifters song makes me so mad. He sings that she is so beautiful and if she left he'd be suicidal. then he talks about being in jail and on drugs I'm sure the Drifters would be so proud. Some people have no shame and no respect for the classics. I think kids are just getting dumber and dumber. I thought the whole reason to sing a song was to move people and let them hear words that have meaning. Not just get drunk and move to a beat. If I wear a teenager I would be ashamed of some of the people my peers are letting represent a part of my generation.

As a general rule, yes. But that isn't a universal standard. There was crap in the nineties, just as there is crap today. There were also great songs, awesome lyricists, and cold beats back then just as there are today. I love old school stuff, but I also like some of the new sh*t.

It's not just you. 80s and 90s rap was better than the crap they play today. Doesn't anybody rap about shoes and food anymore?
