slope intercept form

y = mx + b

y=mx+b

where m is the slope of the iine, and b is the y-intercept.

Not sure what you mean by a few examples, so say you were graphing y=2x-6. You would start along the y-axis and go down six, make a dot. The slope is positive, meaning the line will go up left to right.

From your dot, you start counting based on the slope. As a fraction, 2 is writtten 2/1. Slope is rise/run so you go up 2, then right one and make a dot.

Or, you can start from your original dot and go down 2, left 1.

Positive slope: up/right or down/left

Negative slope: up/left of down/ right

Slope-intercept form is:

y = mx + b

m = slope, b = y-intercept

y-intercept is simply the point at which x is zero, so (0,b) is a point on the line.

the other answer given (y-y1)=m(x-x1) is actually the point-slope form of a line.

The formula is y=mx+c where m is the gradient(slope) and c is the y-intercept.
For example, the equation y= -3x+2,
the gradient is -3 and the y-intercept is (0,2).
