The rover metro has two cables to work the handbrake.1 goes from wheel to wheel. The second goes from the first one under the middle of the floor to the handbrake lever.where it attaches to the lever, and is where the adjuster nut is.If your fitting new cables?then you need to start fitting them from the lever or they dont seem to reach?Hope this answers the question for you

The cable can be adjusted just behind the lever, underneath the car's floor.
