I have a '91 Lebaron Convertable with a analog (needle) speedometer. A few days ago, it quite working, but every now and then the needle will start bouncing - then read the correct speed for about 15 seconds then fall back to zero ....

Whats wrong with this thing?

It is most likely your speedometer pinion. The speedometer pinion is located in the transmission. I would give you a part number, but for that year model there are to many choices to say without seeing your old one. It will depend on the color of the pinion and the number of teeth on the gear. I would take it out and take it to your local dealerships parts department.

Hope this helps.

As stated above it could very well be the speedo pinion gear, but also likely is the sensor that the gear its self that the gear mounts to, we sell many of these sensors at the dealership I work for.

Take a look at the speedometer cable. It may be broken and only every now and then will it catch and turn for a while. good luck.
