Or, maybe the employees are jerks, and the bosses are simply responding to it. Bosses sometimes have to make unpopular decisions, and they don't always have the time to explain these decisions. Remember that bosses are responsible for the long-term life of the company. And, sometimes short-term decisions seem to not make sense to employees who don't understand the long-term needs of the company.
I have had to lay off employees from time to time to save the company and protect many more jobs. To those people who were laid off, I'm certain I looked like a jerk.

In some companies, that is the only way to become a boss. The higher ups choose people like themselves so it becomes self-perpetuating

i've got had alot of jobs. i will't say I bear in mind having one boss who did no longer enable the flexibility pass to his head.
